#ChristmasIsland #reptiles are another great ARWH case study this #ScienceWeek. Lister's #gecko and the blue-tailed #skink only exist in captivity (only ~1000 of each!) after environmental pressures sent them #ExtinctInTheWild. #WildlifeHealth

The rapidly changing climate is causing #fishes, #reptiles, and #amphibians to age faster while also decreasing their life expectancy, a new study has found.
While alarming, these findings could play a vital role in improving our understanding of how climate change affects the ageing of certain species, which can further be used to devise better conservation plans for these animals.

My current vote: uncertain leaning towards being against it.
Primarily bc I can't always confirm where the animals are sourced from. Are they farmed (perhaps the case for bull #frogs but prob not for other #amphibians or for non- #turtles )? If not, is take sustainable?

Update: I asked & Carolina responded! They source their Ambystoma from the bait industry.
My #HerpFall2018 class at @SCSUCOSE has their first #fieldwork lab tomorrow! Students will spend the afternoon checking these traps and surveying nearby sites for #amphibians and #reptiles 1/2
A @SCSUCOSE #biology grad student & I found a DOR Blanding's & painted turtle, & 3 DOR common garter #snakes while setting traps for #HerpFall2018 . The Blanding's #turtle is threatened in #Minnesota & reporting sightings like this can be useful for ongoing conservation efforts
