...are replicated in the field itself. An example: as a queer black woman, in order to really “see myself” in the field, I have to take three separate classes because an identity with as many intersections as mine is not important to contemporary society OR antiquity.
I mean there’s Sappho, but that’s about the bulk of representation. Sometimes I wonder if many of my white male colleagues would be as interested in the field if there wasn’t such a curated wealth of self-mythologizing representation within the field itself.
