Our goal is to empower creators, developers and entrepreneurs to make a living in the metaverse. New technology can break down constraints that exist in commerce today, giving more people the opportunity to be rewarded for their work and encouraging competition.
There will be many types of creators in the metaverse — those who make digital objects like outfits for your avatar, those who offer services and experiences like a virtual museum curator or fitness instructor, and those who build entire worlds like game creators.
Businesses will be creators too. They’ll build out digital spaces that embody their brand and sell both physical and digital goods. You’ll be able to virtually try on a new pair of sunglasses, buy them for yourself or get the virtual shades for your avatar.

We want the metaverse to be a safe and respectful environment. But we know this work is much bigger than us.
That’s why we’re prioritizing working with experts in human and civil rights, privacy and safety to help us think through policies for our products and develop new technologies to limit abuse.
Since the metaverse will be new to most people, it’ll be important to explain how to use our products safely and responsibly so there are clearer expectations.

Just like the internet today, the metaverse will have both public venues as well as spaces for more private conversations. And you’ll be able to choose how you want to participate.
This means, as we build new ways to connect in the metaverse, we’ll have to help people understand how our technologies work, so they can make informed decisions about how to use them.
While no one knows exactly what sharing in the metaverse will look like yet, we believe you should have controls to manage your experience using our products.

Also, from the - admittedly scant - detail in the Politico newsletter, it sounds like this “Operation Moonshot” is already deviating from the best practice set out in the PM’s Council for Science and Tech letter outlining principles for moonshots assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
Moonshots are inherently risky and heroic. Betting recovery on a moonshot is too fragile and too flimsy - surely the hope of a widely available vaccine in a year or 2 is a moonshot in and of itself? Be good to get some practical mitigations in place too, to manage the near term.
