This week we're going to be dazzled with data that supports the PHO perspective of why schools are safe. That data is meaningless when it's divorced from the reality of overcrowded schools in an education system that's been defunded for decades. #bced #bcpoli #RestartDisasterPlan
With all due respect to the epidemiological knowledge & experience of @DrBonnieHenry, but when she talks about what is possible in #bced schools, she's veering out of her lane. Teachers are experts in learning, education, schools and classrooms. We know how schools work.
We are especially intimately familiar with the lack of space, resources and facilities in schools. We've had manage those gaps for the past 18 years. Funding #bced students $1866 below the Canadian average has an impact. Not clear that @DrBonnieHenry is aware of that.

Let's clear the misinformation.

Teachers fully understand the importance of school for children and teens and we want to teach students in classrooms, face-to-face.

What we don't want is to risk our lives in order to do our jobs. 1/
No teacher dies from a flu they caught from school. No teacher has died from being around students who have measles or mumps.

Covid-19 is not in the same category as the flu as we've been told for months so please don't tell us something different now. 2/
3/ The reason teachers, VPs & Principals have concerns about the plan is because we're the adults who actually spend time with kids in schools. We're not pontificating about the importance of schools from an air-conditioned office while relying on decades old memories of school.

Dear @adriandix , we know you know what's in #bced schools because you fought for Gladstone Sec and Bruce elementary to stay open. You must know that it's impossible to maintain 2 metre physical distance in a classroom with 30 students ...
2/
You know. @adriandix, that in many schools the ventilation systems don't work well and there are not enough sinks and that not all windows open and that mice most often win the battles to exterminate them in classrooms...
3/
In all your years in Opposition, @adriandix you heard countless stories about failing infrastructures in schools so why is there such a huge disconnect between the school restart plan and the reality of what's in schools? #bcpoli #RestartDisasterPlan

Any #bced teachers with skills & talent to make a recording of these Cry Us A River @bcedplan lyrics to the tune of Cry Me a River?

Now you say you care
About our students' well-being
Well, you can cry us a river,
cry us a river,
we've been crying far too long

2/4

Now you say you care
About our students’ mental health,
Well, you can cry us a river,
Cry us a river,
Why don't you fund them enough?
3/4

You drove us, you drove us to strike for our rights,
to ensure supports weren't cut
And that there would be enough
Remember, remember all teachers lost,
You told us we’re too greedy,
Beyond your affordability

Hey @FraserInstitute why not 'rate' schools according to their infrastructure to show #bcpoli disparities in schools in #bced.
Rate them on:
* ventilations systems
* mice infestations
* number of portable classrooms
* distance from portable classrooms to washrooms
1/3
2/3
Rate #bced schools based on:
* taps that have to be held down in order to work
* ratio of toilets to number of students
* ratio of toilets to number of staff
* windows that open
3/3
More factors for rating #bced schools
* availability of natural light
* access to green spaces
* size of classrooms
* size of hallways

@bctf teachers can add factors for a repurposed #SchoolRankings to provide clarity around concerns about #RestartDisasterPlan
