Part 1 was all about different DC references out there. And today it’s all going to be about the references (and differences) from the Funeral for a Friend storyline. So much to dissect so this one (my last one) is going to be a long one 😅, so let's get to it!
First off, there are several homages in the Metropolis funeral in #BvS to Funeral for a Friend.

This scene has many references. Several of them to the storyline in Funeral for a Friend. And then several others to different pieces of DC media/comics. So today, I’ll cover these latter types of references and next week I’ll close out with the Funeral for a Friend ones.
So, let’s start with these peppered DC references. First, we can see similarities in Superman’s funeral to the Comedian funeral in Watchmen. This is not too surprising since Zack Snyder was behind the camera in both.

This scene (and the next ones, ups spoilers) homage several parts of the continuation to The Death of Superman storyline in comics which was called Funeral for a Friend, an 8 issue storyline across different comics.
However, the first reference in this scene is not to this storyline, but to All Star Superman #5 with Lex in prison with the orange suit and a classical look after being shaved.

Not surprisingly, there are homages to the The Death of Superman storyline and specifically to Superman #75 which is the final comic in this run. And what a better time to do this thread as we get closer to celebrating the 30th anniversary of this classical moment in comics!
So, we start with Clark saying to Lois how much he loves her before his final fight with Doomsday.
Why people on this fandom we are getting discussions and attitudes straight from 2018? Move on from that mentality people, is already damn time.
You have all the right to not want to watch a movie, that doesn't make it a boycott, and keeping that in your mind will only lead you to frustration. With that said: Ray Fisher not wanting to watch the movies under Hamada production is not a war call [+]

We all want for WBD #RestoreTheSnyderverse and realistic, this can still happen, with zack coming to shoot his ZSJL 2 & 3. Is just too big to be put away, and its shadow still covers whatever DCEU does and do in the future and is self-centric. HOWEVER [+]
The DCEU been streamlined was aways a possibility, was attempt since the previous regime + team H&O screw things up BADLY in JOSStice League, and never recover totally from that (and Geoff Johns egotrip). But the base were aways there to be used, and looks like they are using.
And this is not a bad thing, because remember: The Batman and Joker still exists apart of the DCEU, so that means that Zack Snyder's pentalogy can go in the same direction, and make everybody getting what they wanted. [+]

Several classical homages here to comics. Let’s start from one that was part of last week’s thread with Superman lying in space at the beginning of the scene and how it looks like Injustice: Gods Among Us #33.
Then we get Batman saved by Wonder Woman as it is common in the Snyderverse. She has a very classical pose from the comics. And there might be several references in here. I really like how it looks like from Trinity #6 (which actually took place after #BvS).

So let’s start where we finish off last week because the homages to The Dark Knight Returns (TDKR) #4 continue. First, we have the bomb going off homage in #BvS.
Funnily enough, after the bomb explosion we get Batman saying Oh God in #BatmanvSuperman and in The Dark Knight Returns we get a similar one. This one from Carrie Kelley worried not that Superman is dead but rather that Bruce is.

Just a small scene with a couple of references but one that I really like. First, we have Superman pushing Doomsday outside Earth. This is a homage to the Death of Superman storyline (specifically from the comic Superman: The Man of Steel #19).
The homage visually continues for some seconds. Even we see Doomsday punching Superman in the direction back to Earth in #BvS close to how he’s kicked by Doomsday in this sequence from the comic.

Several references and especially many homages to The Death of Superman (DoS) storyline. But let’s start at the beginning. First, as highlighted by @raveryn there are similarities in this scene between Lex and Lex Luthor from Superman for All Seasons
Then we get to the actual creation of Doomsday in which the imagery resembles the one from Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey #2.
We all have seen the discussion about toxicity in Snyder fandom before. Ain't a exclusive problem, happens everywhere, and hammer that subject just give haters fuel to think they are right. There is a difference between "talk shit, get shit" and straight up attack.
Is that kind of thought what make me say again and again the fandom (from all sides) come back with 2018 mentality. Like, we know what to do, just keep doing it. Haters and doubters will continue their rotine anyway, so who cares?

It’s a quick one today. First, we get Batman jumping through a window in classical style. Just a classical comic look. For comparison, I like how it compares to this entrance from Batman in Superman/Batman #53.

Right off the bat we have Diana Prince folding some clothes and in her bed we see Action Comics #1 (Superman’s first appearance), Detective Comics #27 (Batman’s first appearance) and #31, and Sensation Comics #1 (Wonder Woman first cover appearance).
Then we get Diana scrolling over the news with some interesting headlines. Among them mentions to Stryker’s Island which is first mentioned in Superman Vol.2 #9 in 1987 as an island with a penitentiary in it (curiously same issue Ralli’s diner appears).

Only reference that I have seen mentioned around is regarding Superman talking to Lois, losing faith about humanity momentarily.
This resembles part of his conversation with the priest in Superman: For Tomorrow (issue #204) where Superman states that his only sin was saving the world. In both comic and media he is hurt because he seem to be losing a loved one (Martha in #BvS, Lois in the comic).

This scene is so special for me. It’s probably my favorite one in the movie, but also, it’s where I get the inspiration for my twitter nickname. I am so happy to be able to unpack different connections to the DC world. So, here we go. Beware (very) long thread incoming!
It is very hard for me not to think about Lex Luthor: Man of Steel (from Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo) during this scene. The imagery already is there from Superman flying atop and Lex seeing him from the ground.
