#LaborDay
Today is about celebrating our wins as #America’s #Workers. Thanks to the diligence of #LaborUnions we have #RightsForWorkers Thank You @UAW @NEAToday @AFLCIO @steelworkers @IBEW @UFWupdates @UAPipeTrades @IUBAC @UMAW_ @AlliedPilots @NUHW and more for your fight for us
As you enjoy this #LaborDay2022 know that the #TNGOP is actively trying to dismantle your rights to good paying jobs, paid vacation, holidays, benefits, safe work environments with their push for #Amendment1 they call it #RightToWork, but is actually #CorporateRight to bully
The supporters of this garbage like my opponent Scott Cepicky and our governor Bill Lee are open in their disdain for the workers of Tennessee, they know we lead the nation in low paying wages & that states that embrace the ability for Labor Unions to negotiate have better wages

Take 15 mins. Watch this video. It's more important to you than you know.

This is what China is doing, but Western governments are on exactly the same path #technologically; they just have a different set of #rationalisations.

The #DatabaseState isn't coming. It's already here.
It doesn't matter if your Government's #justification is #innovation ("AI is cool!"), #PublicSafety ("Think of the kids!"), or #efficiency ("People are expensive, let's use algorithms instead") - installing the #tools of #totalitarianism only ends up in one place.

It was true...
...of @ukhomeoffice's centralised #biometric National Identity Register - the heart of the #IDcards scheme in the 2000s - and is as true of @DCMS's "Identity & Attributes Trust Framework" 👇 of which the first 'adopters' include the #HomeOffice (again)...

🧵👏: On day 1 Report Stage of the #NationalityandBordersBill yesterday, the House of Lords voted with compassion & defeated the Government in order to:
1⃣ Allow British nationality rights for descendants of Chagos Islanders denied #citizenship due to historic injustice (237:154)
2⃣Omit #Clause9 which would have given the Home Secretary sweeping powers to deprive people of British citizenship without giving them notice (209:173)
3⃣Ensure Part 2 of the Bill does not authorise policies & decisions that fail to comply with the #RefugeeConvention (218:140)

Karnataka Government issued a ban on all kinds of online teaching by schools. This is arbitrary, exclusionary and in violation of fundamental rights. In this thread we try to explain why this is wrong and debunk the arguments made for the ban #righttolearn #BanBedaChoiceBeku 1/12
As Covid numbers continue to rise, several parents won’t be comfortable sending kids to school even if the government reopens them. So kids need an alternative option to learn. The ban assumes that education of children till 5th is not important. They also have a #righttolearn 2/12
The ban is denying an option for parents to choose what’s right for their kids. It is denying the freedom of choice & forcefully imposing its decision on free citizens. Let parents decide what’s right for their kid & many can’t teach them by themselves #BanBedaChoiceBeku 3/12

We need to look at the concept of Right Work and not just NREGA when we reimagine the future. What seemed impossible entered the mainstream political discourse Now there is a need to strengthen it.
This should look at

1) State and its role
2) Employment and work particularly in the covid crisis
3) idea of nature of work

HRCP is appalled to learn of the government’s decision to abolish the two percent public and private company employment quota for persons living with disabilities (#PLWDs). hrcp-web.org/hrcpweb/abolit… 1/3
Deeply ironic that such a decision was made barely 4 months after the NA passed the ICT Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill. More ironic still that this decision has been made even as the federal govt claims to protect people’s #RightToWork in midst of #Covid19 crisis 2/3
HRCP would like to remind the government that Pakistan is a state party to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and is therefore bound to comply with all its provisions on work and employment for PLWDs. 3/3
