Thinking about Izzy having a sick day. He's sniffly and coughing and generally feeling awful. He tries over and over to get up from his cot, but every time the cabin seems to move under his feet, so he lays back down. After dozing for a bit, he hears a knock on the door.
His "yes" isn't as loud or forceful as he means it to sound, but it's so much rougher. The door opens a crack at first, and Izzy knows that means it's Jim. He's not surprised. The door opens a little more and Jim steps in, closes the door behind them.
"Sick, then?"
Izzy nods.
Jim nods back and leaves, and Izzy figures that is that. They'll inform the captains, the rest of the crew. They'll mock him for it a bit, Dizzy Izzy rearing its head again. So it's a shock when a bit later an insistent knock is on his door, and Roach barrels in.

#rizzy role reversal

"Careful there, mate. Got a nasty scrape I'm gonna patch."
Roach looked down quickly, the movement sending pain through the whole of his body.
"Fuckin' just lay there!" Izzy said, pushing him back down gently.
"Bring me rum and gut. I'll do it myself."
"I've done this plenty times before. You'll be fine."
Somehow it sounded more reassuring than Roach thought Izzy was capable of.
The cut was on his side, it'd be hard for him to reach on his own anyway.
"Fine, at least give me some rum....and put some on the needle!"
"I know, Roach. I've got this, really."
Izzy layed a hand on his forehead. It seemed so warm.
"No fever, not yet at least."
He held the bottle up to Roach's lips and helped raise his head carefully for him to drink. Roach took a long pull and gestured he was done.

#rizzy thread:

The smell coming from the galley tonight is delicious and smoky. Something mildly spiced and heavy on sweetly roasted vegetables. Izzy's looking forward to what he's sure will be a seafood stew with potatoes and cabbage and his mouth waters at the prospect.
At the ringing of the bell, he makes his way slowly while the rest of the crew rushes to be first in line. Lucius makes a face when he gets his bowl, but Roach sees and smacks his hand.
"Be greatful you're getting fresh vegetables, or you'll get nothing at all."
Izzy can't help a small smile at the scene that he quickly hides. But Roach has caught him, too. He seems to see everything lately.
Roach smiles at him kindly as he gives him a bowl filled just a bit more than anyone else's.
"Meet your expectations, Izzy?"
He nods. "Smells good."

#Noangstnov Day 28: Soup
#rizzy
Izzy is sick and as both doctor and cook, Roach knows soup is the best medicine
Izzy had been in bed for two full days now. He’d been ordered to his cabin when the Captain saw his uncertain gait listing him too close to the ship’s railing. He was under orders not to leave until his nose stopped running everywhere and he could keep two meals down.
Izzy was in hell. There was nothing to do but stare at his bare walls, sniveling and shivering and hoping for a quick death.

#noangstnov Day 26: Baking
#Rizzy if you squint

"I made you a cake."
They were alone in the galley. It was still early, most of the ship was still sleeping, but Izzy had come down for his morning coffee.
It was routine, Izzy sat and drank in relative silence while Roach worked.
They tended not to talk. Pointedly. But it was one of Izzy's favorite times of day, and Roach was part of it, loathe as Izzy was to admit it.
This was a deviation though.
"A cake?"
"Captain Ed said today's your birthday.
"Oh for fuck's sake. Who else knows?"
Roach shrugged, nonplussed by the utterly on brand response from Izzy.
"Birthdays mean cake, even for you, Mister Hands."

Day 20: Cleaning
#rizzy
Roach prided himself on the state of his galley. For a galley/surgery to be healthy, it had to be clean, and Roach kept his spotless. Well as much as he could.
The crew didn't always respect that it was his space. Didn't respect his rules.
Not all of them at least. He could trust the Captains to stay away, mostly because they had their own room to befoul. Same for Jim and Olu honestly. And First Mate Hands of course. He was nearly as fastidious as Roach. It was Roach's favorite thing about him after his swordplay.
They'd had a good day today. Raided a merchant ship that 10 kegs of good ale, and they'd already tapped two of them. Dinner had been goat stew with herbs that still smelled fresh and sticky rice. Everyone had been in good spirits over dinner. He'd even seen a smile on Hands' face
