The landmark #SacharCommittee report that collected & analysed data on the social, economic & educational status of Muslims in India is now available in our resource section. Specifically,it tried to gauge if & why Muslims are under-represented in govt departments & other spheres.
Here are some of its findings. ruralindiaonline.org/resources/soci…
The 2001 Census showed that #literacy rates were low among Muslims, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The perception that religious conservatism among Muslims is a major factor for not accessing #education is incorrect. As with many Indians, the main reason for ‘educational backwardness’ of Muslims is abject poverty, which forces many children to drop out of school.

(Thread) Because events in #Alberta politics happened at such a rapid pace, I decided to use my Facebook timeline to compile all the controversial incidents and scandals involving the #UCP in 2018 - because there was a lot. #ableg #abpoli (1/48)
Methodology: I'm not compiling silly gaffes that went nowhere (such as Jason Kenny's finger bowl comment), incidents like "So & so said something stupid on Facebook five years ago" unless the person became a candidate... #ableg #abpoli (2/48)

Over the weekend @desmoinesdem published my article about reaching #rural voters and it spurred some outstanding discussions. One thing I hear a lot from people who did not grow up in #Iowa is their discomfort with Iowans’ emphasis on how long their families have lived in Iowa.
They often see this as Iowans setting narrow parameters on who is a “real Iowan” and who is not. This is not the case at all and glosses over a fundamental misunderstanding of why my family’s Iowa longevity matters.
In the last 100 years rural America lost over 50% of its population. During the Great Depression, 1/3 of all farmers lost their farms. Most families never returned.
