1/5 Hun Sen’s Proposed “Law” to determine single citizenship for #Cambodia’s leaders: Normally a law is intended to defend the public interest. The Hun Sen-inspired law targeting me and barring me from becoming prime minister is simply an act of meanness.
#SamRainsy
2/5 Hun Sen made it clear that, as a reprisal against me, he wants to definitively block me from the premiership. This is not the first time. Remember the amendment to the law on political parties, which specifically pushed me to resign from the CNRP leadership in Feb 2017.
3/5 I did so to prevent my party from being dissolved (it got dissolved anyway in November the same year). The legal and the court systems are being perverted under the autocratic Hun Sen regime.

1/9 #Cambodia: Call for international food aid for the population of Phnom Penh threatened by famine #SamRainsy @ICRC @IFRCAsiaPacific
2 The food situation is Cambodia becoming critical, especially among the poorest.
3 In the name of the Cambodian people of whom I have been an elected representative for 25 years, I call on the international community, notably the International Red Cross, to help the population of the country’s capital Phnom Penh.

1/13 The dissolution of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) by Hun Sen three years ago plunged Cambodia into an unprecedented crisis.
2/ The CNRP saw its 55 National Assembly deputies and 5,007 municipal councillors, including nearly 500 mayors, stripped of their functions. These were redistributed and, in some cases, resold to supporters of Hun Sen.
3/ The CNRP’s level of support in the 2013 national parliamentary elections may have been enough for it to gain power in the absence of the large-scale fraud which marred the exercise.

1/4 On behalf of Cambodian democrats I would like to express my solidarity with Thai democrats who are protesting against the forced disappearance of Mr. Wanchalearm Satsaksit, abducted in Phnom Penh June 4. Image
2/4 This abduction, carried out in broad daylight, is an act of state terrorism in which Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen specializes and which has cost the lives of countless Cambodian democrats.
3/4 The abduction is a way for Hun Sen to thank the Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for preventing me, as the only Cambodian opposition leader at liberty, from returning to Cambodia via Thailand as planned on November 9, 2019.

1/5 To eliminate dangers associated with possible "false positive" results produced by any faulty serological test, I have proposed a two-step protocol for the issuing of immunity passports. @WHO #SamRainsy
who.int/news-room/comm…
2/5 The first step involves a virological test to establish whether the applicant currently has COVID-19. A positive result means that no immunity passport would be granted to the infected person and the "false positive" issue would become irrelevant. @WHO #SamRainsy
3/5 If the candidate tests negative for COVID-19, they then proceed to the next stage, which is a serological test to establish the presence of antibodies. @WHO #SamRainsy

1/4 The abduction in Phnom Penh on June 4 of Thai political activist Wanchalearm Satsaksit bears the fingerprints of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen who is an expert in such acts of state terrorism.
2/4 As leader of the Cambodian opposition, I have myself been the target of several attacks which have cost dozens of my colleagues and sympathizers their lives.
3/4 More recently, Hun Sen has publicly threatened to have me abducted while in exile abroad. I have informed the French police of Hun Sen’s criminal intentions. It’s possible that the French authorities have dissuaded the brutal dictator from carrying out his threat.

1/4 Informed observers are predicting that #Cambodia’s banks may collapse, especially microfinance institutions, for three reasons.
First: almost 3 million small borrowers can no longer repay their debts after having lost their jobs and/or their revenues in the current economic crisis.
2/4 Second: A small number of large borrowers engaged in land speculation and whose loans have been used to buy land for resale to Chinese investors are now trapped: they can no longer repay their loans and are stuck with the land after the Chinese departed.

1/7 In a statement issued Sunday, the banned opposition CNRP told RFA that the outbreak has cost millions of Cambodians their jobs and incomes, specifically highlighting the plight faced by those indebted to lenders.

2/7 “The most serious issue is that people are facing a debt crisis,” the statement read, adding that based on research by nongovernmental organizations, some 2.5 million people owe money that they cannot repay.
3/7 “The CNRP has reiterated its appeal to the Phnom Penh government to put in place strict measures to delay or suspend the payment of debts to microfinance institutions or banks for at least three months and to protect properties from confiscation.”

1/6 In Gavroche on 3 May I envisaged a "predictable overcoming of the reservations on the individual use of serological tests" to identify those who have had COVID-19 and to evaluate their immunity by testing for antibodies in their blood. bit.ly/2L7sNR6 #SamRainsy
2/6 The WHO had warned that it’s "uncertain that the antibodies present at a given moment can give protection against a new infection by the same virus in the future”.
3/6 This warning opened a debate on the possibility of the same person recontracting the same virus within a relatively short period. Such a hypothesis on the absence of immunisation would lead to conclusions that would be both irrational and catastrophic.

1/13 Britain votes in a general election today. The result is likely to be a government that will complete the process of leaving the European Union. #Cambodia #Brexit #UKElection #SamRainsy
2/13 This new chapter in Britain’s history gives it the opportunity to make its own distinctive contribution to human and political rights in developing countries.
3/13 Cambodia is one of forty-nine developing countries that enjoy duty-free access to European Union markets under the EU’s Everything but Arms (EBA) scheme.

1/12 Cambodia and the EU now face decisive choices and a moment of truth. Having committed many reprehensible acts in the course of his long rule, Hun Sen is seeking at any price to ensure the impunity that only power can guarantee. #SamRainsy #Cambodia
2/12 As he grows older, Hun Sen aims to conserve this power within his family and is preparing one of his sons, Hun Manet, to succeed him.
3/12 Increasingly guided by fear, Hun Sen seems determined to realise his plan to hold and pass on power as he wishes, regardless of the views of the Cambodian people and the international community.

1/16 A few hours before my departure from Paris planned for November 7, the Thai Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, personally told the press in Bangkok that he would not allow me to enter Thailand.
He therefore complied with the request that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had made to block my route of return.
I needed to go through Thailand to be able to enter Cambodia by land with, according to my plan for November 9, several thousand Cambodian migrant workers who were to participate in this “grand return from exile.”

1/15 Exile has long been part of my life; even though painful it is a lesser evil than the risk of prison or a violent death which permanently hang over Cambodia’s opposition leaders. #SamRainsy #Cambodia
2/15 I have decided to return to my country this year despite the large numbers of legal convictions and arrest warrants against me.
3/15 My 25-year struggle for democracy against an authoritarian regime led by former Khmer Rouge members has led to several assassination attempts and ongoing political and judicial persecution against me.

Thank you to Dr. Mahathir Mohamad for the precious advice he gave to our leaders andpeople during his visit to #Cambodia.
The following seven valuable pieces of advice are clear from the diplomatic statements that Dr. Mahathir made during his visit. #SamRainsy
1/7 Cambodia must embrace, not reject, the Western-model of liberal and pluralist democracy.
2/7 Cambodia must be prepared for a democratic change in government (just like Malaysia in 2018).

1/3 A final proposal to Hun Sen. On Nov 9, if the number of people who come to welcome me at any place in Cambodia -- without any hindrance from Hun Sen's forces -- is less than 1 million, I will accept to be arrested by Hun Sen's forces and end my political career. #SamRainsy
2/3 But if the number of my supporters reaches or exceeds one million on that day (maybe three times as many in 2013 for my previous return in Phnom Penh after four years in exile), then Hun Sen must immediately step down out of respect for the will of the people. #SamRainsy
3/3 We will ask the United Nations and the international press to be witnesses of this dignified wager. #SamRainsy

1/7 On behalf of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), I would like to express to the European Union my deep gratitude for their effort and determination to help defend human rights and restore democracy in Cambodia.
2/7 Even though the CNRP was arbitrarily dissolved by the Hun Sen government in November 2017 to prevent it from participating in the July 2018 election, it continues to represent the will of at least half of the Cambodian people, a fact which nothing can hide.
3/7 On behalf of the Cambodians from all walks of life that the CNRP continues to speak for, I would like to confirm to the EU that the response it is considering to address the totalitarian drift - a suspension of the EBA programme - is acceptable and appropriate in our eyes.

1/8 INTERNATIONAL INVESTIGATIVE COMMISSION NEEDED TO EXAMINE POSSIBLE PRESENCE OF FOREIGN MILITARY BASES IN CAMBODIA
Through peace agreements signed in Paris in 1991, Cambodia is obliged to respect absolute neutrality in its foreign policy. #SamRainsy #Cambodia @UN
2/8 On the basis of reliable, tallying sources, China, with the agreement of the government in Phnom Penh, is in the process of building aerial and port infrastructure in the coastal province of Koh Kong in Cambodia which could be used for military ends.
3/8 The infrastructure is similar to that built by China on the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea, which are the subject of territorial dispute.

1/3 I call on the governments of countries who are friendly with #Cambodia, and especially those countries that respect democratic principles and human rights, to disregard the arrest warrants against the eight leaders of the Cambodian opposition. #SamRainsy
2/3 The eight are Long Ry, Men Sothavarin, Eng Chhai Eang, #SamRainsy, Mu Sochua, Ou Chanrith, Tok Vanchan and Ho Vann. They were ridiculously charged with “plotting to commit treason and incitement to commit a felony.”
3/3 The UN, the US Congress, the European Parliament, ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch can confirm these arrest warrants have been issued for purely political reasons and show worsening repression in Cambodia under Hun Sen.

1/5 The Phnom Penh regime is spreading rumours that CNRP President Kem Sokha would be willing to ask for his “rehabilitation” from Hun Sen. This is pure nonsense. #SamRainsy #Cambodia #FakeNews
2/5 The 118 leading CNRP officials, including Kem Sokha, were unconstitutionally banned from politics when the CNRP was dissolved by the Hun Sen regime in 2017. By arbitrarily dissolving the only credible opposition party, Hun Sen has destroyed democracy in #Cambodia. #SamRainsy
3/5 Therefore, Kem Sokha and his CNRP colleagues are entitled to fight for the reinstatement of the CNRP, which will imply their full, dignified and automatic rehabilitation. #Cambodia. #SamRainsy

1/6 In a telephone call with government officials made public Feb 14, Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen said the government must destroy the opposition, the CNRP, before the European Union withdraws the country’s free-trade privileges. #SamRainsy #Cambodia
