[2] As you take the Skytrain into Samut Prakan Province, you can’t help but notice the giant three-headed elephant. This is the Erawan Museum contained within the world’s largest three-headed elephant. The height is about 43 metres or 15 storeys.

Today is the official opening of the 179.55 meter high ‘Samut Prakan Learning Park and Tower’. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm. Entry to the museum and observation deck is 60 Baht. Samut Prakan citizens, students, seniors, and children under 110cms are free.

This is the Paknam Observation Tower. The outside has been completed for several years now. But we are still waiting for them to finish the inside. However I heard that it is nearing completion and it should be opened to the public this year. THREAD.

These are some photos of the Paknam Observation Tower taken over the years. The foundation stone ceremony was in 2012. The first photo was taken in 2013. The last in 2016. It was scheduled to open in 2017. Note the Skytrain with no rails.

This weekend I am exploring the coastline from Samut Prakan to Samut Sakhon with my friends @chilipastetour and @DavidLuekens. There's a new road along Sapphasamit Canal that now goes all the way. My map notes for this trip are here: thailandphotomap.com/exploring-the-… #bkkdaytrip #Thailand.
If you switch to a satellite image, you can see that the coastline is mainly fish and shrimp farms. There are not many roads here. This section is actually in Bangkok. Yes, Bangkok has a coastline too in Bang Khun Thian district. #bkkdaytrip #Thailand.

This afternoon, I’m exploring #AncientSiam in #SamutPrakan. This is an excellent #BKKdaytrip. If you don’t have time to see all of #Thailand, you can see much of it here. In this THREAD I will choose 10 stops and upload the rest of my photos to the #MyThailandBucketList FB group.
[1/10] The Wihan at Wat Phumin in Nan, Northern Thailand. The original temple was constructed in 1776 and has a unique floor plan as it has four Buddhas and four doors facing each direction. The murals on the wall are of particular interest #AncientSiam #SamutPrakan #Thailand

I just bought the annual pass for Ancient Siam in #SamutPrakan for 565 Baht. The regular price for Thais and expats is 400 Baht and so after only two visits it is then free. Up to now they haven’t allowed foreigners to buy this special pass, but they finally relented this week 👍
To get the annual pass for Ancient Siam you just need to show proof you are an expat such as driving license, work permit or a long term visa such as for marriage or retirement. The pass is 565 Baht & this allows you to enter as many times as you like during the one year period.
During the COVID-19 period, Ancient Siam are only open fully to the general public at the weekend and holidays. This is due to the lack of tourists. However, with this annual pass, you can go 7 days a week. Though on weekdays, you will find the big buildings are all locked up.
We just had the heaviest rain for many years in Paknam #SamutPrakan. Two inches in just over an hour. My kitchen started to flood for the first time ever. I’m fighting a losing battle to bail out the water from the back of the house to the front #thaiflood #Thailand
Looks like most of this storm is centered over Samut Prakan. Paknam in particular. We’ve never had such heavy rain in all the years I’ve lived here. Ive never had my kitchen flooded before either. Even during the Big Flood. I’m almost continuously bailing water out.
The rain has started to slow down now. Luckily it started before I went to work & so I was able to stop most of the flood water entering my house. It could have been a lot worse. I know it floods worse elsewhere in Thailand, but we’ve never had floods like this here #SamutPrakan
Ruabin Floating Market, south of Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bang Phli, is a new riverside attraction that opened a few weeks ago. It is open every weekend and public holidays from 7am until late afternoon. The best time to come is in the morning as it gets very crowded after lunch.
It is a nice setting alongside Khlong Samrong & opposite Wat Bangchalongnok. The popular Ruabin Night Market is also nearby. If you’re wondering about the name, it’s because it’s under the flight path. Every now and then you can hear planes fly over. Ruabin is Thai for airplane.
Despite not being open very long, there are already many food shops at Ruabin Floating Market. So, plenty of choices. I highly recommend this place if you want to visit a riverside qmarket that has no Western visitors.

More than two million expatriates living in Thailand are being targetted by the Ministry of Tourism under the ongoing domestic tourism programme designed to expedite a recovery of the Thai economy from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic [THREAD]
The Minister of Tourism said that a pilot project focussing on Khung Bang Kachao, the "Lungs of Bangkok," has been initiated to motivate expats to see places they may not otherwise have thought about. He will be leading a group of foreign ambassadors and expats here on Saturday.
Located in Samut Prakan province, Khung Bang Kachao is a large green oasis close to Bangkok. The venues that the group will visit include Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nai, Bang Nam Phueng Community Homestay, Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Botanical Garden and Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market.
