Thread about the leave-taking of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from their royal duties on 18 January 2020.
First, and foremost, Her Majesty the Queen’s own words in her recently released statement. Her direct statement, using the first person singular (‘I’). Royalty used to use the first person plural (‘We’). 
Second, the unusual step of issuing a double communiqué from the Palace. This has never happened before to my knowledge. One is a personal note; the other is the official note.
