"A shooting that damaged two power substations in a North Carolina county, leaving thousands of homes without power, has been deemed a "targeted" attack, as officials warn of threats to the nationwide infrastructure." @GavinNewsom we must #SaveSolar 1/4 🧵usatoday.com/story/news/nat…
If @californiapuc adopts proposal to cut rooftop #SOLAR incentives by 75% local energy solutions become unaffordable. CA residents could have long power loses bcuz #utility grid is vulnerable to extreme weather from #climatechange, targeted or cyber attacks. #SaveSolar 2/4
#utility infrastructure is vulnerable to events that could take down large portions of grid. Local solutions like rooftop #SOLAR/microgrids/community solar w/batteries provide #resilience by supplying power to residents and grid when grid goes down. @GavinNewsom #SaveSolar 3/4

@Sammy_Roth there is a hard reality here. 1) Still need 40% more #CleanEnergy fast bcuz climate breakdown already here. 2) @californiapuc proposal will send rooftop #Solar in a downward spiral #SaveSolar 1/4 latimes.com/environment/re…
3) Rooftop #Solar w/ battery is fastest way to accelerate clean energy. No land fights. No lawsuits. Shovel ready project w/ experienced industry. 4) If this proposal is approved on 12/15 we lose this solution. We don't get to 100% #CleanEnergy by 2045. #SaveSolar 2/4
Why would @californiapuc still consider such an extreme proposal bcuz if this passes they destroy this key part of the solution to #climatechange. @AirResources and @CalEnergy agree rooftop solar is critical to get to 100% renewable. #SaveSolar 3/4

My comment to the @californiapuc today: “The ultimate test of the NEM3 proposal is whether or not it will continue to foster the rapid growth of rooftop solar in California. It fails that test miserably. Instead it will stop rooftop solar growth dead in its tracks. #savesolar
That’s no accident: the purpose of the NEM3 proposal is to shore up the monopoly power of the Investor Owned Utilities against encroachment by the citizens of California. To lock in dirty, expensive energy for their profit. #savesolar
You, the CPUC, along with your boss, Gavin Newsom, are directly implicated in this literal power grab.

By killing the growth of rooftop solar you will harm all Californians. You will harm us by gutting our ability to combat climate change. #savesolar

Yesterday the CPUC released their updated proposal for the future of solar yesterday. The bottom line: it’s still drastic and will make it harder for everyday people to get solar. Here are some initial details… #SaveSolar #KeepSolarGrowing
Most consumers who get solar after April 2023 will see an average 75% reduction in the credit they receive for sharing their extra energy with the grid. This is the steepest decline we’ve ever seen in the United States. #SaveSolar
Churches, schools or businesses who go solar after April 2023 will see an even bigger reduction in the solar credit. #SaveSolar

Congress is close to making some important investments to help working people get rooftop solar & batteries. And @californiaPUC might undermine this gift by passing a #SolarTax and other changes that block working people from getting solar. #SaveSolar
This is crazy! And it's only happening because of the political power that @PGE4ME @SDGE @SCE have over the California state government. #SaveSolar
It's a fact: The @PGE4me supported Solar Tax of $300-$700/year + 80% cut to net metering that @californiaPUC is considering would destroy California's solar market even if Congress passes their plan. #SaveSolar

.@DelChiaroSolar: California needs more clean energy, but PG&E is trying its best to kill rooftop solar. #NoSolarTax #SaveSolar

California needs more clean energy and we need it fast. In May CAISO — the state’s electricity grid operator — announced that California needs 1,500 to 2,000 more megawatts of electricity by 2026 to avoid more rolling blackouts. #SaveSolar
Today, California consumers install more than 20 MW of sun-charged batteries every month. That’s roughly the equivalent of a power plant every year. #SaveSolar

This is a good step, but the @californiapuc will undermine itself if they make it impossible for everyday people to reduce the burden on the grid with rooftop solar and batteries. #SaveSolar
Rooftop solar even w/out batteries significantly reduces the burden on the grid all the way to 6pm during the summer, well within the peak demand zone, as this chart from August 14, 2020 shows. Image
Rooftop solar with batteries can do even more to reduce stress on the grid, and accelerate the retirement of dirty, polluting peaker plants.

1/18 CBSMornings and @BRP1949, your story omitted some really important perspectives and data. Whether you intended to or not, the result is a one-sided story. #SaveSolar @GavinNewsom
2/18 Had @CBSMornings done even a little bit of research, you would have found that indeed, not only do solar users pay for the grid, but they actually make the grid cheaper for all ratepayers.
3/18 Solar users pay for the grid through the $10 minimum bill, plus an average of $50-$120 / mo for power when the sun's not shining, plus "nonbypassable charges" the utility deducts from the net metering credit.

OMG. I am being mansplained right now on the subject of solar energy.
a couple of retired white haired men are explaining to me that the Cal PUC is not following science, BUT THEIR SCIENTIFIC COMMENTS CAN FIX THE PUC DECISION. #SaveSolar
The white haired men did not submit a brief to the PUC pre-December. They did not make public comments in December. They think they can fix the PUC's clusterf*ck with comments after a proposed decision has been issued. #SaveSolar

Thread (1/9).
After neglecting their own infrastructure for decades and burning down CA communities and forests, utilities want to restrict rooftop solar & make us subsidize their mess.

@GavinNewsom you need to fix this

ocregister.com/2021/12/14/cal…
Here's what they're doing (3 parts):
1) $57 per month rooftop solar penalty fee The more panels, the larger the fee. Includes apartments, new homes built with solar per state mandate, and batteries. The fee would be the largest in the U.S. (2/9)
2) 80% cut to the credit for sharing surplus solar energy. Credit would drop from an average of $0.25 /kWh to 5 cents. This cut happens immediately; Solar Rights Alliance predicts it will end the solar market. (3/9)
