As of this morning, here’s where we stand with the Supporters’ Shield debacle:

- Fans overwhelmingly hate the decision.
- Current and former players are outraged.
- Coaches are speaking out against it.
- The league has started to remove mentions of the Shield from their website.
And as far as I can tell, the response from the ISC is “not our fault, talk to the SSF” while the SSF’s stance is “please refer questions to the supporter groups” who were possibly informed of the decision maybe on some Slack channel.
This is gross incompetence from a leadership perspective, full stop. Not taking responsibility for your own actions, passing the buck, and then playing the victim on your personal Twitter accounts.

Fans of this league deserve much, much better. So do the players and staffs.

Remember back in simpler times, in 2019, when @MLS didn't want its fans making political statements?

Yeah, the reason for that is most of their owners are conservatives who didn't want political statements they disagree with.
Ownership in MLS is, for the most part, at odds politically with its players and fan base.
This isn't' to suggest there aren't left-leaning MLS owners. There are a few.

And this isn't to suggest there aren't conservative American soccer players (Geoff Cameron, hello!) or supporters. There are.

It’s funny that now MLS ownership wants to use attendance for anything scientifically relevant, when they’ve been manipulating the data for 20+ years. “Manipulating” was the nicest word I could come up with.

The @MLSPA shouldn’t budge one single inch. #BusinessMetrics
Maybe you decide you have too much salary on the books in 2021. Take a stroll on down to the Anthony Precourt School of Book Cookin’, and learn how to drive away your fanbase. No promotions, all big games on Wednesday, slash marketing, no toilet paper: BOOM.
Or you could just make them stay in the parking lot until the game kicks off. Report however many people accidentally got into the stadium at an arbitrary time as the attendance number. You’re not the bad guy! They did this to themselves! Weakness for queso! You’re the victim!

I rarely use my iPad anymore but my phone is dead so I’m going through iPad pictures to kill time. Found this photo from a #SaveTheCrew event where literally everyone wants to murder me except Pam, who is kinda laughing at something dumb I likely said. I semi enjoy you too. Image
PS: This picture was taken by @julieeejackson, who is good and talented and you should hire her to take pictures of you and your dumb family even if you don’t know she’s doing it. She’s that good. Mad respek.
Hooooooooo boy, here’s a screenshot of the note I typed a few minutes before Grant Wahl’s tweet dropped.

Mannnnnnnnnnnnn. #AMBITION Image

There were a lot of late nights, early mornings, & never-ending meetings during #SaveTheCrew. Interviews, speeches, & countless phone conversations. Grinding and fighting. Rinsing and repeating.

Days like today & weeks like this week, let me tell you - it makes it all worth it.
And I know, to outsiders there might be this feeling of “you’re getting pretty emotional about a business sponsorship”. Yeah, I am. When someone decides they’re going to destroy your community over the lack of them, they become pretty goddamned important to you.
During #SaveTheCrew, I didn’t think about winning the fight as watching the Crew making the playoffs or hoisting a trophy. I think we all defined success as our city coming together as a saved community. Financially backing each other up. Building something new, for Columbus.

SCENARIO: The alley behind my house is a common area for 4 different streets. A new person moved in, and they have a #SaveTheCrew magnet on their car. Obviously, I demand to know who you are so that we may become the closest of pals and confidants, assuming your heart is true.
QUESTION: Do I just run up to this human and smack them in their mouth and be all “FUCK YEAH BITCH WE SAVED THE CREW, LETS GO SMASH SOME LAND GRANT RIGHT FUCKING NOW” or do I play it cool and be all “oh you like the Crew, that’s cool I guess, wanna smash some Land Grant?”
ALSO: I’ve noticed that they aren’t flying a Crew flag on their front porch yet. Why do they hate the Crew, and when will the Massive Report Podcast get their levels under control? Sweet tiny infant Guillermo, I have questions.

“While there’s been a, you know, couple yellow scarves at various games, but by and large the formal supporters groups of the league, you know, haven’t been overtly on one side of this issue, or the next” LMFAO.

Let's start with the first week, shall we.

THREAD: Healthy things grow. (The bad news... unhealthy things like cancer often grow as well.)

When surveying US Soccer, it is clear that the current system does not produce natural environments for players, coaches, & clubs to prosper.
2. The DNA of the USSF system is fragmentation, segmentation, & isolation. Instead of US Soccer working collectively as a ‘sum of its parts,’ the USSF system works independently or in many cases works against other members. We’re left with silos & a convoluted mess.
3. Much of what occurs in US Soccer is upside down & backwards.
