The stand off between @Twitter and the #Indian government is symptomatic of a shrinking space for dissent. In an early response they temporarily blocked a respected news outlet and several voices of peasants, indigenous peoples and other classes of protected characteristics. 1/14
@Twitter Now Twitter has blocked a number of accounts from viewing in India, including that of a sitting member of parliament, after committing not to block politicians, activists and media. Political dissent and independent media need, primarily, to engage with their home audiences. 2/14
@Twitter Twitter needs to offer a neutral, level playing field for all political actors, with the same set of norms across markets, rather than faciliate repression of democratic dissent. In the US they de-platform a sitting President, and in #India they are open to bullying? 3/14

.@realDonaldTrump and Republicans in Washington want you to think Democrats can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

But we’ve been fighting #ForThePeople since Day One.

The House-passed legislation piling up outside @SenateMajLdr McConnell’s office proves it.
@realDonaldTrump @senatemajldr The scores of bills we’ve passed aren’t busy work.

If passed into law, they will improve the lives of Americans across the country & build a better future for generations to come.

But the @SenateGOP has made the cynical decision to ignore it all.
Some key examples?

H.R. 7, the #PaycheckFairness Act, would ensure equal pay for women nationwide.

Meanwhile, the #ForThePeople Act would enact the most ambitious set of democracy reforms and ethics standards in a generation.

Today, I’ve joined with @SenateDems to support #NetNeutrality because we stand with the 86% of Americans, 82% of independents, and 85% of Republicans who want a free and open internet. #SaveTheNet
Last year’s effort to restore net neutrality had bipartisan support in the Senate, and I hope my colleagues will continue working to pass legislation permanently enshrining strong net neutrality protections in our code of law. #SaveTheNet
With more of our lives happening online—from education to entertainment, commerce to health services—we need to make sure that all Americans have access to a free and open internet. #SaveTheNet

Most Americans will tell you unprompted that cable, phone and internet companies often give customers a bad deal and wield way too much power in Washington.

#Netneutrality rules ensure consumers are protected from price gouging and other abuses by big telecom companies.
Telecom giants have lobbied like crazy to stop this effort, but last week Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. Senate stood up and voted to reinstate these critical consumer protections. #SaveTheNet
Now @HouseGOP must act. I urge my colleagues to side with the American people and protect the internet for everyone, no matter their race, income or zip code. #NetNeutrality kaptur.house.gov/media-center/p…
