🚩 Taking off points for no names!
🚩 Taking off points for late work!
🚩 Grades associated with behavior (good or bad)!
🚩 Completion/Participation grades!
Grades should reflect learning. Outside factors should not be included.

For some reason this is a hot topic and tends to ruffle a few feathers, especially late work.

The California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) passed a resolution in 2020 about equitable grading.

I think it's commendable, and I'd like more people to know about it.

2. Understand What: At its core, SBL is about setting clear learning destinations, determining where Ss are in relation to the destinations, and doing everything we can to help Ss reach or go beyond. SBG is communicating where Ss are in relation to the destinations. That's it.
