[1/🧵] I've been reading a lot about #XRPL #scalability recently.

Let me quickly go through how #XRPL performs and #scales on these metrics:

▶️ Scale up "vertically"
▶️ Scale out "horizontally"
▶️ High volume & High value TX
▶️ High value & Low speed Source: https://ripple.com/insights/building-a-more-sustaina
[2/17] 👉 Asynchronous TX speed—Scale up "vertically"

In contrast to #DAG-based systems, which operate in "chaotic order" and execute transactions in parallel, the #XRPL validates transactions in canonical transaction order—one Ledger at a time.

❓ The approach for #DLT/#Blockchain-based systems such as #XRPL:
☑️ "Payment Channels"

🧐 It's a sophisticated feature for transmitting "asynchronous" #XRP #payments that may be broken into extremely small amounts and paid in total order afterwards.

@MichelTdS and I wrote a #review on the last decade of #brain #connectivity #research for a special issue in @ScienceMagazine : 'circuits create networks by stringing together many brain regions to orchestrate brain symphony conducted by finely attuned connections.' A 🧵
First things first, the #cover shows that the corpus callosum has different axonal calibres, as shown in a cross-section of the axons. Warmer colours (red-yellow) indicate thicker axons. These finely attuned connections allow for the perfect orchestration of the brain symphony.
There is a growing consensus: functions are an emerging property of the interaction between brain areas. Function-specific brain activity involves the integrative effort of several brain regions. White matter connections support this integration by interconnecting brain regions

#Latour was a giant, an indelible inspiration for me among many, who will be sorely missed, as others are articulating much more eloquently. But for me the lists of favorite texts I’ve seen are not hitting the mark, so this version focuses differently (and on the early days).
1) Callon and #Latour (1982) “unscrewing the big leviathan,” long before Tsing a different way of thinking about the #scales of phenomena, actors, projects as growing and shrinking; realities growing and shrinking in the same process.

2) #Latour (1984) “the powers of association,” a performative definition of society as continuously remade. Strong resonances to Foucault’s microphysics of power but in more dynamical terms. #performativity #power bruno-latour.fr/sites/default/…
