I picked up about 20 signs this morning. Signs that I put up at 1 a.m.
Someone went out in the middle of the night and thought it would be a good idea to tag a BPOC candidate's signs with the word "racist".

Many people don't appreciate just how hard this work is. As a BPOC woman, putting my name on the ballot was not an easy decision. I didn't take it lightly. I knew that something like this could happen, but I really didn't expect it, nor did I expect to feel this way if it did.
People don't realize the time and effort and money that goes into running a campaign. The emotional work. The long hours. I'm exhausted at the end of a 16-18 hour day, but I get up the next day and continue the work because I believe so strongly in it.

When I landed as an #immigrant in #Canada, my life started in #Scarborough. My parents (#heros) struggled to find jobs that matched their education. That didn't stop them from working hard / hustling even if it meant 2 jobs at times to keep bills paid and food on the table. 2/
My family lived in an apt building that had mostly racialized/middle-low income families (#affordability). Not much social distancing when large crowds wait for elevators (#EssentialWorkers) or use the shared laundry facilities. This pandemic brings back those vivid memories 3/

You ignore the fact that we have been transferring patients to Kingston, Peterborough, Orillia and Coburg for weeks. Now it’s Sick kids. You ignored our pleas for vaccine for months. We asked for an equitable approach yet our population is in dire need and our appts are full. 2/

A closer look at #Scarborough that has seen a rather large jump in recent days. I can't see mention of a specific event in the media. Age range seems quite widespread although highest numbers concerningly in 70+ group.
Here it is against rest of North Yorkshire:
In rate terms this puts Scarborough in 10th place against all Local Authorities in England. In absolute terms it's 71st.
