Though we don’t believe we should have been forced to go to a hearing, our hope is that the NLRB understands what we experience every day:
✊ Journalism is a team effort
✊ We all share common interests and purpose
✊ We can’t do this job without each other

Most importantly, our collective desire as the #SCNGGuild is to build a better way forward, have a united voice and have a seat at the bargaining table. #SaveSoCalNews

About three weeks ago, we announced our intent to form the #SCNGGuild.
Now, @SoCalNewsGroup is fighting our unionization by taking us to a hearing today before the National Labor Relations Board. #SaveSoCalNews

The argument?
@SoCalNewsGroup is trying divide our newsroom and delay an election by arguing copy editors, page designers, graphic artists, and social media and digital producers — shouldn’t be allowed to unionize with their colleagues.

Our response?
✊We reject the company’s attempt to stall the unionization process and create a dividing line in our newsroom. We all deserve a united voice and a seat at the bargaining table. #SaveSoCalNews #SCNGGuild

We are the journalists of the Southern California News Group. We love what we do, and we are organizing to ensure that we can continue doing it.

Here's why we're doing it:

1/9
Southern California's local newspapers are essential. We document communities large and small, bringing news to millions of readers. In some of those places, we are the only ones left ensuring someone keeps an eye on the institutions & trends that affect people's daily lives. 2/9
As the workers of the Southern California News Group, we represent journalists spread across four counties, covering the news under one unified banner. We love what we do, and we are organizing to ensure that we can continue doing it. 3/9
