I 100% didn't understand Seattle's autonomous zone until a friend just showed me what was going on. The zone was established by Seattleites after days of clashes between police and protesters. The police finally left and people took over. What happened next is truly nuts.

Irony here is @GovInslee just sent National Guard he refused to arm home. Now he is going to need a special forces unit to recover 6 blocks of the city - tho no way he wld order that. So now it’s a stand-off. Someone on twitter made a reference to Basra, Iraq, but this is the US

It is not the product of a mvmt of the working class. The demands are reformist and middle class, they include asking Trump to investigate police violence & retrials for only POC convicts (why not for all?).

There is no call for wealth redistribution, nationalization, taxes on the rich, no appeal to industrial workers or workers in other countries, etc. I.e. nothing that touches the property of the capitalist class. Racialist, parochial and middle class. #SeattleAutonomousZone
