One of the fringe benefits of being married to an ER doc in Seattle is that you get some insight into how people on the front lines are preparing for the coming storm.

#COVID19 #LifeInTheHotZone #coronavirus #seattlecoronavirus
On one hand, given the less then entirely convincing response from the other Washington, it's kind of heartening to hear about actual competent professionals building a realistic plans of action.

On the other hand, the plans are scary as ****.
Nobody really knows how bad this is going to get.

While certainly hoping for the best, the people on the front lines are planning for Italy, the implications of which are quite terrifying.

This is a MUST SEE video on the #Coronavirus in Italy. The #ICU intensivist explains the epidemic and treatment- Report From The Front Lines @JAMA_current - YouTube #Covid_19 #COVIDー19 #COVID
This is a good summary but somewhat inconsistent to what we have been hearing on #twitter about #italy. The question about triaging those sick and above 60 yo was NOT answered directly. He said the goal was for everyone to get an ICU bed but was that successful? 1/
There are many pictures of hazmat suits which is somewhat different and more aggressive than the reports we have been hearing about #coronavirus in Lombardy 2/

I’m a preschool teacher whose husband is immunosuppressed and a stage 4 cancer patient. I was ready to take a 3-month leave of absence from work to protect my husband from #seattlecoronavirus, until I saw his oncologist from SCCA, who is also married to a specialist in 1/x

1. Public Health and your personal health are not the same thing. The health of individuals and the health of the population are interdependent, but the strategies are different. The response to coronavirus (covid-19) in King County is a public health response.
The goal is to protect the community as a whole. Your role as an individual is to do your small part to cooperate in the larger project, for the good of the whole community. Think of it as part of your civic duty. A war effort without the war.

Alert 🚨: my kids’ school has been cancelled two days in a row because someone who goes there was in contact with the coronavirus and I am very grumpy now so WATCH OUT
(PS, I hope with all my heart my #seattlecoronavirus joke above remains droll and relevant in coming weeks instead of becoming one of those “insensitive about a truly tragic thing that has devastated the world” kinds of tweets. Believe me. Really really I do. #CoronaOutbreak )
