[šŸ§µ1/9] Itā€™s Friday, time for another ā€˜deep diveā€™ into our KS3 history resource packs, today is @MollyNaveyā€™s 7-lesson enquiry based around the question:

This is Jenny Lives with Eric and Martin (1983), an educational childrenā€™s book intended to reduce anti-gay prejudice. It was quickly labelled ā€˜gay propagandaā€™ and wielded as a weapon and ā€˜evidenceā€™ against the #LGBT community, leading to the introduction of #Section28 #LGBTHM21
Danish author, Susanne Bosche, created the book to help children ā€˜...understand themselves and the society they live in.ā€™ google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.thegā€¦

However the book became the catalyst for one of the most pernicious pieces of legislation in recent times.
In 1986 The Sun ran the headline ā€œVile Book In School: Pupils See Pictures of Gay Loversā€. The fact that the book was published by Gay Menā€™s Press in the UK simply ā€˜confirmedā€™ this view.

If you've watched #ItsASin & are wondering about some of the other lives touched by #HIV in the 1980s, let me tell you a little about my research on HIV-affected women & children from the 1980-1990s. #thread #lgbtq #HIV
My PhD was on representing #HIV to children & adolescents. I looked at school education, TV, leaflets, teenage magazines, basically any children's media that engaged directly with the subject of #AIDS. #histsex

My article on HIV in Grange Hill is here:

Because children were basically assumed to be heterosexual in the 1980s/1990sšŸ™„, my work often looked at educational materials created for heterosexual teens who adults assumed wouldn't get #HIV if told about safer-sex...

1/ Iā€™ve found that if you scratch the surface of organisations keen to label 12 year old children LGB or T what you invariably find is that what they are most interested in & excited about is labelling 12 year old children trans.
2/ Why have we allowed the LGBT label to act as cover for organisations to advance a child trans narrative?

Few of these organisations appear concerned about advocating for girls who may be same-sex attracted, lesbian, unless it is to tell them that they are really boys.
3/ The conflation of sex & gender is worrying when it concerns adults but itā€™s hugely irresponsible & dangerous when it concerns children.

A 12 year old that is affirmed as gay is not the same as a 12 year old affirmed as trans.

The @commonslibrary yesterday uploaded a briefing document for MPs on GRA reform. This was quickly replaced without notice with a heavily edited document. The major difference? Removal of 81 references to protections for Transgender Children in Schools. #TransSection28 in motion.
20 references to the DFE have been removed. These cite trans supportive school guidance (From Wrexham & Devon) which explicitly state that trans pupils should use the toilet & changing facilities in which they are most comfortable.
These revisions, combined with the statement from the @EHRC CEO yesterday, the changes to the NHS pages on gender dysphoria, & lack of statements on the harm of gender identity conversion therapy, follow recent rhetoric from Liz Truss. This is #Section28 via the backdoor.
