Finally, the #GoldacreReview is published! (During Parliamentary Easter holidays, mid-ping-pong on the #HealthAndCareBill...)

It's 221 pages - each PDF page is a double page spread - so this could be a lo-o-o-ong [Thread].

Here goes...
First point to note, in the Terms of Reference (p5), is that this is about "access to #NHSdata by #researchers, #commissioners, and #innovators" - i.e. #Planning and #CommercialReUse - so it is directly relevant to the operation of millions of people's #NationalDataOptOuts... "185 wide-ranging recommendations for us to explore", says @sajidjavid (p6). Gulp! Time for some coffee...

"systems that ensure #underrepresented groups are well represented" may (partly) refer to this "landmark review", which got off to a slow start:

How a Powerful Company Convinced Georgia to Let It Bury Toxic Waste in Groundwater

@propublica: Georgia Power & GOP leaders in GA have been working for years to bend the rules

is there no limit to their greed & reckless disregard for the environment?
propublica.org/article/how-a-…
"Georgia Power reps argued that state regulators could narrowly interpret the definition of a single word — “infiltration” — in the federal coal ash rule. The company believed this interpretation would allow millions of tons of waste to be left submerged in groundwater."
"Georgia Power hoped to store coal ash in a way that only prevented water — such as rain falling from the sky — from seeping through a cover over the dry ash. They hoped regulators would disregard the presence of any groundwater that would soak the dry ash..."

Many students doing basic mathematics cannot distinguish between #iteration, #simulation, and #emulation as different methods of experiment design.
Even further surprised why so many students don't know the similarity and the difference between computation and calculation.
These are some of the basic mistakes which one, embedded into the mind, will work their way right into a workplace and destroy our educational foundations
For, e.g. when I was teaching Introduction to FRM Financial Risk Management, I noticed many students thought they are three different types of VaR - Value at Risk.
What they didn't realize is that VaR can be computed using different models aka methodologies, namely, HS, VCV, MCS.

My dudes, these #HDLS14 talks/posters are so good (per uzhe, yoozh? yuzh?) I'm doing a terrible job of retweeting/threading talks/posters without the structure of synchronous talks, but I've watched SEVERAL. So here is an attempt to put them in a thread.

Hello tweeps!

In this #Thread, I'll be explaining step-by-step process of designing the below #UI #Mockup (by @frontendmentor) with only #html & #css.

You can follow along by typing out the #codes in the images.

We'll learn how to look at mockups so we can do the following:

1. Deduce #html tags to #code the #webpage
2. Declare #css properties to style the webpage
3. Establish #breakpoints to make the webpage #responsive.
.
.

First, let's set up our html page.

#webdev

As shown below, we started with the following:

1. Create an #html document.
2. Specify the title.
3. Set the width.

The width is set to equal the viewport width. This means that it'll be as wide as the screen viewing the page - first step to #responsive #designs! Image

#MDSI2019 Day2 Session 2: "Standardization of file format I/O" by @jppiquem.

Straight into problems -- input files are a tougher cookie to crack than output 🍪
Actually, Day 2 Session 3 #hasphdcantcount
#Input: Many problems -- many possible solutions! How to find the right one? #goldilocks

#Output: probably easier to handle and we can learn from other fields, like climate research.

Now that Adobe is creating clusters of app chunked from Desktop Softwares, it's even more important to distinguish between, Instrument, Apparatus, Tool, Equipment, Device and Appliance from Product Management's view point. #app #Software #productmanagement #UX #productdesign Image
#Semantics are very important for #Discoverability by the user in the marketplace and Market Positioning of Software Products by the company. It have a great role in defining the Product Vision. It's the right words that shapes the right reasoning, that streamline
the perspective, that streamline the #strategy and so on. #Software #industries have borrowed a lot of terminologies from traditional #domains. Semantics also attract or distract a lot of regulatory bodies like the word "cookies". Who cares about #cookies unless you

I think Universal Share icon should be different from in-platform share icon. @LinkedIn Share icon always misdirect my expectations to share it with friends over whatsapp and messenger only to be disappointed. @jmspool @Facebook #iconography #semantics Image
Noticed Facebook in-app share icon is different from universally used share icon. The reason could be to avoid cognitive bias of icon vs usage expectation. Image
@jclaussftw have a look at this as well.
