The 2020 Hate Crime Summit brought together members of the community, religious leaders, community leaders, and our law enforcement partners to discuss hate crimes, hate incidents and what defines both. #SheriffV ImageImageImageImage
As I stated tonight, hate crimes and incidents cannot and will not be tolerated in our community. @LASDHQ remains committed to the safety and security of the 42 contract cities and 153 unincorporated communities we provide law enforcement services to.
As your sheriff, I want you to be assured that the LASD continues to maintain specific guidelines to combat hate crimes and hate incidents.

Today, I made sure my voice was heard because I voted! After the press conference w/@LACountyRRCC announcing the #WeAllCount pilot program, I cast my #vote using the mobile ballot marking devices on-site. The process was very easy to follow & only took a few minutes to complete. ImageImageImageImage
The #WeAllCount pilot program is aimed at encouraging eligible inmates to exercise their right to vote. They were given the opportunity to use the electronic mobile machines to register to vote and submit their ballot on issues that affect themselves and their families. #SheriffV ImageImage
VOTING IS NOW OPEN IN @CountyofLA

The @LACountyRRCC Dean C. Logan reminds voters that voting begins this weekend for the March 3 Presidential Primary Election. All eligible voters have a constitutional right to vote, regardless of their current location.

Murder tears at the fabric of our community. It tears apart families, discourages businesses and erodes the hope we want to provide our kids. Image
This homicide occurred in the city of Carson on the evening of Sunday, December 15, 2019 at approximately 8:50pm.

Homicide investigators are in need of information. We are asking for the public’s help in providing any information about this senseless killing.

This morning’s media open house highlighted the strides we have made as a department and the obstacles we have overcome. To recap, I’d like to point out the #LASD’S achievements this year. 1st, violent crimes across @CountyofLA are down 15.15%. #SheriffV Image
2nd ICE transfers are down 53%, keeping true to my campaign promise that I would remove the ICE agents from our facilities. Jail violence has also decreased, despite the rise in in our inmate population. Image
3rd recruitment is up, a total 65% increase over the previous 4 year average. As Captain McBride stated, we achieved this by changing our culture. We seek qualified candidates but no longer treat them like criminals; a practice which previously dissuaded most from applying. Image

The LA Mission is remarkable in everything it does to give back to the community by providing shelter, distributing donated clothes, allowing for a recreation area for physical fitness, an education center and career counseling center all in one place! ImageImage

Reports that ICE is still in our jails is untrue. Our “release and compliance” desk manned by custody assistants is not proof that we are working for ICE. ICE detainees go through one desk for uniformity and accuracy. #SheriffV #OpenHouse ImageImage
Custody assistants working the RCD screen detainers to make sure we are in compliance with #SB54 . This also protects the rights of all inmates. #SheriffV #openhouse #immigration
ICE agents no longer have an office at our jailed & are prohibited from stepping foot in #LACounty jails. The 47% decrease in transfers to ICE is proof. #SheriffV #OpenHouse #ImmigrantHeritageMonth
