The 10 immigration detention centers communities are calling on the Biden administration to close down represent every single detention center where immigrants needlessly suffer. This list represents a beginning to dismantling ICE detention, a #FirstTen to #CommunitiesNotCages.⁣
The Adelanto Detention Center’s record is rife with abuse. This month, Martin Vargas tragically died, 3 days after ICE released him from the CA facility after he suffered from a stroke & COVID-19 inside.

Why #FirstTen to #CommunitiesNotCages is calling to #ShutDownAdelanto:

7 people have died at Adelanto since it opened. Just last yr, people reported that GEO Group used a toxic chemical disinfectant inside the facility, causing people to develop bloody noses, burning eyes

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse: Private prison companies including @CoreCivic & @GEOGroup have decided to form an advocacy group designed to cover up the family separations, medical negligence & deaths we've all been a witness to.

This news hits hard.
But it also means we're doing our job right. We're getting through and it's scaring them. @theday1alliance, guess we'll be seeing your clients in court. #ShutDownKarnes #EndFamilyDetention
P.S. @AlexandraWilkes: You donated to us but considering you now defend private prisons that deny medical care to women, allow family separations to occur in their facilities, & feed our country’s addiction to imprisoning people of color, we’d be eager to give your money back.

🚨 BREAKING: Our team on the ground has been told by ICE there are now 16 people (8 families) detained at Karnes. #ShutDownKarnes

To top things off: About 600 of the women we connected with there are now missing.
What does this mean?

The ICE detainee locator says that they're at Karnes or that their info isn't available. At this moment we don’t know where the women are located.
We have at least one instance of ICE telling us women would be transferred to a certain city and their family members being told they were taken to another.

This is unacceptable

Karnes might be empty right now...
The women once locked up in there, separated & taken around the country to hide the truth behind what went on there.

But we know what happened and we'll continue to share #StoriesFromKarnes until we #ShutDownKarnes.
tw: suicide 👇🏾
ICE and GEO weren't able to provide adequate medical care for adult women.

What makes us think it'll be anything different once they re-open Karnes to families and children?
We're working with the amazing team at @TXCivilRights to highlight this next story. 👇🏾

We feel it's one of the most crucial to tell because it shows just how far ICE and GEO's actions (o lack thereof) can go.

Today we've decided we're mad. We're fed up of all the BS going on.

-Women facing medical negligence at Karnes.
-Said women being transferred to keep things hushed.
-Making room for FAMILIES at said ^ facility.
-Slashing the refugee cap to 18K

The list goes on...
The thing with anger is that it gives you guts to speak up.

That's what this administration and big corps like GEO and Palantir haven't realized.

The more anger they produce, the louder we're going to get.
So if you're looking through your newsfeed reading these stories and find yourself getting mad..

Join us in emailing ICE to demand they #ShutDownKarnes, ask Congress to #DefundHate...but most importantly go out & protest these things and all acts of hate.

Last wk we revealed that @GEOGroup, who run the Karnes ICE detention center, aren't providing women in custody w/ proper medical care.

This wk, conditions haven't improved.

Instead women tell us that ICE is moving them to rural detention centers to fill Karnes w/ children 1/x
Despite support to #ShutDownKarnes from @SenKamalaHarris, @ewarren, @SenSanders, @RepAOC, @RepLloydDoggett, @JulianCastro, @RepEscobar, & @AyannaPressley.

ICE refuses to budge & continues to:

1. Not provide proper medical attention
2. Plan to bring children into unsafe condns
But we know there's ONE thing that ICE simply can't ignore.

And that's the voices of the women inside. The women they've mistreated.

They would prefer if you didn’t hear these sworn testimonies.

They would prefer if you didn't hear the #StoriesFromKarnes

🚨 KARNES UPDATE: We've just received info that women have started to get transferred out of Karnes. Some of them are being separated from their daughters to be taken to different facilities around the country.

📢 Email ICE directly to #ShutDownKarnes 👇🏾

ALSO: From what we've heard they're being taken to Louisiana and the Adams County Correctional Center in Natchez, MS.

FYI: This is one of the WORST facilities in the country.
Just this month Adams County Correctional Center, operated by CoreCivic, signed a 5 year contract with with ICE.

Re-populating the medium security prison is all about $$ considering, its contract wasn't renewed by the federal bureau of corrections.

The women at the Karnes detention center in Texas are experiencing systemic medical abuse.

Here’s one example:

Mary* fled her home country because she was sexually abused by the police. The lady who found her took her to hospital. Mary lost consciousness from bleeding out.
She woke up 3 days later with a bandage on her stomach. “The doctors told me I lost my baby”. Doctors also told her that her Fallopian tube was damaged and she might not be able to have children in the future.
Fast forward to arriving at Karnes in June.

“I have experienced extreme pelvic pain every month since the emergency surgery. I have had nerve and muscle pain in my head and at the top of my shoulders. They give me a white pill to take every day for three days."

🚨BREAKING: ICE is about to transfer women from Karnes Detention Center to Louisiana & other detention centers across the country to make room for family detention.

FYI: Over the last few weeks women have been complaining about the inhumane medical care at this facility.
In recent days, our legal team has spoken with several women currently detained at Karnes who’ve told us about the medical neglect and suffering they've gone through.

Two of them have anonymously shared their experience which we are revealing for the first time.
The following statement comes from a woman detained at Karnes suffering from CANCER. She was admitted on July 23rd of this year and has not received the proper medical attention she needs since then.
