For this report, our students analyzed 499 habeas cases challenging unlawful immigration detention in federal court in Louisiana. This research comes as these last resort habeas filings have dramatically risen in the past year, with immigrants held longer & during COVID.
Louisiana houses detention centers that hold more immigrants than any other state, save Texas. This has been true since 2019, when local jails contracted w ICE for federal $ to fill beds emptied by bipartisan criminal justice reform in the state (JRI).

I am done with UCP creating needless stress & struggles for our most vulnerable with changes to #AISH. I have heard of 2 deaths by suicide directly due to UCP cuts. There will be more. Those on #AISH matter to me. They deserve compassion, not cuts. Support, not distress. /2
I am done being told there were no cuts to Ed. Bullshit. Feb had direct cuts to both PUF & ADLC & we KNOW if you compare numbers, there are cuts. How DARE UCP cause more struggles for kids, esp those with special needs. That is beyond cruel & immoral. These cuts harm kids. /3
