1/ Meanwhile, back in the Land of Lipids...

If I seem a lot less active lately, it's because I'm prepping for something big next week. I'll tell you all about it in 7 days ;)

However, there are also two lipid-related things that have been underway that I'm very exited about..
2/ One is that I've been having a very exhaustive conversation with @NutritionDanny and Alan Flanagan of #SigmaNutritionRadio via email the last several days regarding the #LipidTriad and I think it's be very productive and respectful...
3/ Two, a while ago I tasked @siobhan_huggins with doing a review on studies for #Cholesterol/#Lipoproteins and #Viruses. As usual she's knocked it out of the park. Should be launching early next week on CholesterolCode.com, of course.

1st... a setup:

A while ago I guested on @NutritionDanny's podcast #SigmaNutritionRadio. Alan Flanagan and I discussed #Lipids, #LDL #Cholesterol, #Atherosclerosis, etc. If you haven't already listened, I highly recommend it sigmanutrition.com/episode321/
2/ Today @NutritionDanny let me know they have an article out rebutting my points found here: sigmanutrition.com/lipid-triad/

As always, I encourage you to read their article with an open mind. Then feel free to come back here for my first impressions.

Let's get started...
3/ Oh -- the beginning of the article includes a tweet from a #ListenThread I did when the podcast was dropped. That can be found here:

1/ Thread — Does the Lipid Hypothesis account for a slow down in advanced age?

Alan Flanagan makes an interesting point at around 51:20 in our podcast for #SigmaNutritionRadio. Please listen to get full context.

2/ In short (and correct me, Alan or @NutritionDanny, if I’m not representing it correctly):

Interventions with lowering LDL when at an advanced age have much less effect because of the previous cumulative burden of LDL.

As Alan put it, it’s “too little, too late.”...
3/ I’d argue it should be exactly the reverse if we follow the logic of the Lipid Hypothesis and what cumulative burden represents.

The scale should be:

Low athero = less chance of benefit in intervention
...
High athero = more chance of benefit in intervention

1/ #ListenThread -

My guest appearance on #SigmaNutritionRadio just dropped where I have a very friendly #debate with @NutritionDanny and Alan Flanagan on #LDL #Cholesterol, #ApoB, #Atherosclerosis, #AllCauseMortality & much, much more!

2/ I did this podcast semi-sleep deprived and between interviews for #TheCCDoc. But I know my main hopes going in were to emphasize:

(1) Why I favor the "Lipid profile-centric" model over the "Lipoprotein-centric" model.
(2) How this is relevant to "the triad" ⬆️LDL⬆️HDL⬇️TG
3/

(3) Why this triad is of particular interest to all of us as it relates to not just cardiovascular disease, but in particular -- all cause mortality (ACM)

I honestly couldn't remember how well I did in getting these core points across, thus relistening now...
