In the last few years I have been incredibly passionate about, and active in, the free speech movement. In my first year at uni I founded @BrisFreeSpeech and later I was amongst the founding members of @speechchampions.
3/ I have watched in horror as dogmatic ways to thinking consolidate themselves in our educated circles and as #NoDebate replaces a culture of curiosity and open-mindedness. #SilenceIsViolence told us all how we must think as indoctrination was renamed "educating oneself".

WHITE SUPREMACY is the biggest threat to America and its future. 1/
If “silence is violence” was a day, it would be yesterday. And today I’m holding “decent” white people accountable. Decent white folks need to look at themselves in the mirror this morning and have a honest “come to Jesus” moment about their silent complicity in allowing this. 2/

Stop.

Make your point clear.
Help me hear you.
Don’t be mean.

and

Use.
Your.
Words.

That’s what I used to say to my sons when they were still early in their language development. I still recall the frustration that would wash over their young faces mid-tantrum.

Now they’re older & frustration looks different. But those same words still hold true. And here lately? I’m also saying them to myself.

Yup.

Today, I’m reflecting on what it means to use our words.

Especially as it relates to how we #dothework of antiracism.

Like many trying to #dothework, I read this book. I’ve found a lot of @DrIbram's ideas thought provoking. Like this:

Tamir Rice should be alive today, turning 18 years old, and graduating from high school. He was an innocent 12-year-old who was playing in a park near his home when he was shot by a Cleveland police officer.
The person who called the police told the dispatcher that Tamir was probably a juvenile and the gun was probably fake. The dispatcher did not relay this information to the responding officers.

But now is the time for these women's stories to be heard. Some of you will read this piece and have several thoughts that ALWAYS come up whn the issue of abuse comes up:
1) This sounds vindictive and vengeful
2) I know said abuser, he/she could never do anything like tht 2/20
3) He's married. Why would he need other women? They're so happy together
4) His wife/spouse is supporting him, standing by, denies anything ever happened, if s/he knew, they'd say something
5) The board wld've knwn but no one said anything? How's that possible 3/20
