#SinceParkland, at least 1,200 kids and teens across the U.S. have died by gun—in homicides, domestic violence, and accidental shootings.

The Trace and @MiamiHerald worked with 200+ student journalists to tell their stories.
They include the 14 students fatally shot at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida:
As well as three other people 18 and younger who lost their lives to guns in separate incidents that day:

Christian Robinson, 14
Matthew Ortega, 17
David Williams, 18

I'm the lead researcher on a project we just launched at @teamtrace called #SinceParkland, where student journalists across the U.S. wrote profiles of their peers who died by gun since the Stoneman Douglas shooting.

Compiling the data was painstaking.
Every day for 8 months I consulted @GunDeaths and searched for people 18 and younger who were fatally shot. We used 18 as the cutoff age because Meadow Pollack, who died in Parkland, was 18.
I amassed the shootings in an Excel spreadsheet. To date, it's up to 1,222 rows — and climbing, because we're still compiling victims until the 1-year anniversary of the Parkland massacre, which is Thursday.

That means that #SinceParkland, the United States have had enough young gun victims to fill three ultra-wide Boeing 777s, and the true number is certainly higher because no government agency keeps a real-time tally.…
.@teamtrace wanted to acknowledge those lost lives. It assembled a team of more than 200 journalists — kids themselves — to research and write short portraits of every victim, 18 and under, for that 365-day period. #SinceParkland
