Just read @Meaningness' newest chapter, "Finding the complete stance", and… finally grokked *how* Meaningness is "not philosophy", via playful analogy with productivity tools. 🙃🍅

Tentative understanding, confidently stated, below. 🧵

Some context:

Meaningness is an in-progress ebook on "better ways of thinking, feeling, and acting—around problems of meaning and meaninglessness; self and society; ethics, purpose, and value".

I've been reading it, on and off, since mid-2019.

Several people asked me for a way to interactively explore visualizations of Twitter networks (especially with search). Here it is: twitterverse.net

Features:
- 2D and 3D
- Search
- Zoom, pan, etc
- Includes names and bios
- Multilevel communities
- Mobile (2D)
When you click a search result it will take you to the node. (In grouped mode, it will also scroll to the account's location in the list of accounts in the supernode)
Here's what multilevel communities look like. The graph gets smaller and easier to read at higher levels. Notice that the colors are consistent between levels. (The orientation isn't, currently. I.e., it might be rotated or flipped between the levels.)

wife: why do SF people like describing themselves as rationalists?

me: idk

wife: but they do, right? more so than rationalists anywhere else?

me: maybe their parents were hippies and this is (or was?) their way of rebelling
this is the story that makes most sense to me + the reason that explains why it ~doesn't~ make intuitive sense to me (as an outsider without this context)

SG is kind of "rationalist by default", you don't really have a choice when LKY is your founder

when I was trying to put out a bat signal to find people like myself in SG, I went with \(n_n)/ – which feels uncommon in SG, but practically everyone I met in SF was "\(n_n)/ by default" so it wouldn't be a good bat signal

For the sake of viewpoint diversity / productively critical clash of ideas:

The #SobSquad movement falls into "most disagree + I don't yet have an argument which stands up to their criticism + maybe they know something important".
I have tons of questions about it which'd be cool to hammer out.

Like:
-For traumatised adults only, or would children get value?
-For all hang-ups, or mainly social ones? (Food hang-ups, spider fears?)
-Is it the only way to get desired effects?
-Do you REALLY not suffer‽
-etc
