It all started in October 2016 when the Common Law lawyers in the two #Anglophone regions in Cameroon went on strike in relation to the infringement of the Common Law amongst others by the Government of Cameroon. Lawyers were teargassed and beaten in public like common criminals.
In November 2016 the teachers too went on strike for many reasons among which were;

- Call an Education Forum
- Transfer of all Teachers of non Anglo-Saxon background to teach in the French sections

On 08/12/2016, the population went out to protest against excessive taxes without the government being able to provide basic necessities like water or lights etc. The protesters met with unlawful force from military killing at least 15 & injuring more @hrw

Today, bcos of govt's brutal repression of legit peaceful protests in 2016/2017, the indiscriminate killing
&abduction of young men by #Cameroon soldiers, loss of their main sources of income, they hv all but a few become members of armed militia. Sponsored mainly by diaspora
Today the populations hail them. The diaspora arms them. Activists report their gains,losses& deaths(sacrifice as its called) The govt potrays some as heros for laying down arms and choosing peace. #Cameroon govt has even formed &armed its own #AmbaBoys. What abt the longterm?

1/ #BiyaSpeech on the #AnglophoneCrisis is an example of how the crisis got to where it is today. Gov of #Cameroon claims that all initial demands made in 2016 have been met- and that Anglophone marginalization is a myth- did not address the grave human rights abuses committed.
2/ Biya reiterated the claim that arson, rape, kidnappings & targeted killings have only been committed by #Ambazonia secessionists. In reality- his forces, especially the BIR, were the first to carryout such abuses, worsening the #AnglophoneCrisis .
3/ Biya hinted that the Gov. does not support the Swiss initiative for dialogue & instead announced his own initiative. This initiative will be politicized and will evidently not include members of the #SouthernCameroons diaspora. In short- it will go no where.

@ChimamandaReal the Nigerian novelist captures this sad tale: The carnage of the #Cameroons:
A story about an African nationโ€™s fatal disregard of its minority population. A story about the muddled sludge of colonial history.
