"One of the ideas we had with #InterPlanetary was, 'What would it take to make science hedonistic? And instead of telling people to do it, you'd have to tell people to STOP doing it?"

David Krakauer: "Do you have a favorite model or metaphor for #time?"

Per the PM's speech, 4 pillars of Indian #SpacePolicy:
1) allowing the private sector to innovate;
2) government acting as an enabler;
3) preparing the youth for the future; and
4) seeing the space sector as fuel for India's development.

2/ Lots of griping and commentary from the #space community about the lack of focus/interest on space from the Biden Admin so far. Let's unpack where that comes from and why
3/ Part of it comes from wonks like me who are concerned that there are not any space policy appointments at and wish to see more movement on space issues

1) Let's game out what a realistic independence movement in #space might look like. AS ALWAYS these views are my own. We're going to need to draw from #spacelaw, #internationalrelations, #InternationalLaw, and #history here. A thread.
2) Let's posit that the goal is a sovereign, self-governing habitation on #Mars, free-floating, or on the #Moon, not subject to control by a terrestrial country. How do we get from where we are now to there? Yes we've all read Moon is a Harsh Mistress and the Red Mars trilogy.
3) The first thing to realize is that you can't do this in one step. Ops in space are entwined with terrestrial activities and governments so separation is hard. As for law, the #OuterSpaceTreaty requires countries to exercise jurisdiction & control over activities, even private.
