@isabellasaund @socprogress @CSIsocialimpact Why measure #socialprogress? We live in a country that prioritises economic growth and #GDP over pretty much everything else. The logic goes that if economic progress increases, so should social progress.
@isabellasaund @socprogress @CSIsocialimpact But we know that's not the case - we know that the mining boom, while contributing to 28 years of unprecedented economic growth, has also had ongoing impacts on communities and the environment where mining companies have now left.

BREAKING: Nigeria ranks 121st among 146 countries with an overall score of 49.20% in the 2019 Social Progress Index report.

Nigeria has dropped 7 places from 114th (and 49.27%) in 2018 to its current position in 2019.

The Social Progress Index #SPI is used to measure how socially developed countries are on three dimensions of social progress namely:

1. Basic Human Needs
2. Foundations of Wellbeing, and
3. Opportunity.
Nigeria - Social Progress Index: %

2014 - 46.88
2015 - 47.14
2016 - 48.12
2017 - 49.07
2018 - 49.27
2019 - 49.20

Nigeria SPI dropped from 114th to 121st

Basic Human Needs: 50.32% to 50.17%

Foundations of Wellbeing: 55.72% to 57.31%

Opportunity: 41.77% to 40.12%
