"The problem of states is so difficult, you alone can solve it”.
Mahatma Gandhi just about summed up #SardarVallabhbhaiPatel .
On his death anniversary, taking a look at the man who integrated 500 princely states into one nation India. #SardarPatel #StatueOfUnity
When one thinks of #SardarVallabhbhaiPatel , there is just so much to the man, that it is well impossible to explore his life in a single thread or post. But if I had to choose one part of his life, it would be the way he integrated, 500 odd princely states, into one nation
Imagine having to deal with multiple mini states, each having their own set of issues, and welding them into one single nation. Add to it, a newly independent India, dealing with the trauma of Partition, Nizam in Hyderabad declaring himself independent, war in Kashmir.

Was #StatueOfUnity a Good Investment?

It cost 3000 Cr and generated 72 Cr Revenue in 1 yr

👉 If you keep this much money in savings bank @ 5% interest, you'd get 150 Cr every year without doing anything!

👉Taxpayers paid for Statue, taxpayers pay to see Statue. Double Dhamaka!
👉 Maintence and employee costs significantly bring down the profit generated from revenue

👉 Talking about maintence, during the rainy season Statue got flooded because of bad design. Authorities said it's not a defect but it's a part of design.
👉 Talking about employees, at one point, the salary for employees working at the Statue hadn't been paid for 3 months. They had to protest to demand their salaries.

All this happened within first year.

Anyone who considers it a "Good Investment" is either foolish or a scammer

Yesterday i visited world's biggest statue and talking about the user experience that comes with this Incredibly huge 182 m high national monument, we came across this. Obviously looking at these pictures, we'd blame our people and our ethics. But there's more to it.
That people aren't the only ones to be blamed but the government is at fault too. As architecture students, we're failed by our jurors and faculty for incomplete work. Then how do you open a world record breaker monument to the public with half planned proposals? #StatueOfUnity
Did they really want people to visit the monument? We were standing 3 hours straight in the heat on the road for 16 buses that'd cater to approximately 10k people at a time since private vehicles weren't given direct entry clearly highlighting lack of parking provision.

//Patel’s ancestors had no right to education till the British arrived in India. They never wrote about themselves & others did not write about them. Patel &his elder brother, Vithalbhai, were the first in his family to go to school.//
Article hit it very hard on shudras to realize the status of them in the indian caste and political system. Here few remarkable lines.

1. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, always headed by Brahmins, admires Patel because he did not disturb the varna order.
2. Gandhi and Nehru wrote their own histories, leaving behind careful autobiographies. But Patel did not do this. He must have thought that his family history and his own history were not worth writing.
