#Gronkowski #Fornette #Buccaneers leave doldrums in wake so easy W v #Falcons likely on march to #SuperBowl rematch with #Chiefs. ATL got clubbed by #Patriots and #Cowboys 2/3 back. Easy 2 dismiss solid W v #Jaguars. And D looked stout last 2. Public will overlook. FALCONS +11
Also #Buccaneers opened as mere -4.5 fave last week. Now they will lay a TD more, based on nothing new. #Gronk was already back. A TD based on public excitement. Much Vegas fruit will be picked in this one. Re: #VegasFruit #Raiders too inconsistent to stop #WFT train. #WFT +2.5
Disappointing #Chargers travel to lowland #Bengals, who clobbered #Steelers and went from +2.5 to -3.5 in one fell swoop. Hungry #LAC & #JustinHerbert atone for bumbles while high in the sky, while #CVG likely flat. CHARGERS +3

As I said last night, the drastic decline has been hard to watch. If you're stunned or in shock of what's happening, overall, then you haven't been paying attention. This happens to all the great teams. #Steelers model of consistency since 2004 is second to only the Patriots.
I'm no apologist nor am I happy with what's unfolding. It sucks knowing it's over. But it's been over. The writing has been on the wall for years now. The Steelers just didn't want to read it. It's fine. Everything is fine. Nothing to see here.
I wasn't alive in the '70s but I've heard the stories. That was 50 years ago. I was alive for these recent SBs. That was 10+ years ago. Because something worked for years doesn't mean it always will. Can't be stubborn. You have to adapt in this league.

The good news is, #Steelers 2022:
- Likely has a pick *much* higher than 24 each round.
- have 4x cap space PIT will end w/
- offseason will begin without 80% of the strength and exp on the line retiring/being released. Lots of $ and picks to add to rebuild effort started in 21.
To add to this:
- No one agreed w/ me on this in April, but it was a team drafting 24th w/ a roster that deserved 12 overall. That will be level-set now.
- Drafting that low, w/ so little free agent options, they had to fill gaps. Premium dudes usually not available at 24 in R1
- Now that many of the non-premium positions were addressed, and given ample experience (rocky as it was), they're in a prime position to add premium position players w/ much higher draft picks. OT, CB seem in line. Can also add them in FA to lessen the weight of the draft.

“I thought our tackling at times was below the line, but you’ve also got to tip your cap to the Lions.”

Said Dan Campbell calling plays got the #Steelers off balance.
“It doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to put pads on and tackle three days this week. … A major component of tackling is approach.”

68.02/ This is right in my wheelhouse: scholarship laden pop-culture analysis. This is of #Dune

68.03/ #Dune is an incredibly flawed book that's nonetheless fascinating. Also, as a kid I thought the (pseudo) Arabic was Hebrew. e.g. "Kwisatz Haderach" which I eventually recognized from Midrash (from last week's parsha! God "shortened Eliezer's way"):

67.02/ Another #NFL Scorigami!

Even sweeter: a final score with a 5, the 2nd best score. #1 is 4 (happened only once, in 1923) #2 is 5, #3 is 2, #4 is 11. The best is a 1, but it's never happened in the NFL.

The last time the #Steelers played at Lambeau thread. 2013. Longest season ever. 0-4, 2-6, and then 6-8 heading into Green Bay on Dec. 22. Windy, snowy, freezing. Brutal, but absolutely perfect. Dick LeBeau is about to recite The Night Before Christmas at the team meeting.
After Coach LeBeau was done, Coach T spots me and gives me a nod. What’s up coach? I need you to print out the article that says, ‘We can beat Pittsburgh with Matt Flynn’ and slide it under every defensive player’s door. I head to the hotel lobby and print 40 copies.
Door by door I go. Polamalu. Clark. Keisel. Ike. Heyward. About to run through a wall as I recall this. 15 minutes later the assignment was complete. I tell coach that it’s done and go on my way. The next day it’s even colder, windier and snowier. What more could you ask for?

There are 3 perennial #NFL playoff teams at 1-2 right now

#Seahawks
#ChiefsKingdom
#SteelersNation

Who's got the BEST chance of still making the playoffs?
CC: @HolleyandSmith
I want to say #ChiefsKingdom because of history but they aren't just 1-2, they have 2 conference losses AND a division loss. Plus #Raiders are undefeated.
#Steelers have 2 conference losses AND a division loss to a team that's supposed to be a pushover #Bengals . That's not good either. Can't see them getting into even second place with the Browns and Ravens on top

🚑WEEK 3 INJURY THREAD🚑

Full write up out Tuesday am with @TheFFBallers

My concise thoughts here 👇
#Patriots RB James White

R Hip injury similar to that of Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip subluxation). Will have imaging tomorrow to determine severity but I'm expecting White to land on IR
#Giants WRs Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton

Both players exited early with hamstring strains, with Shepard being ruled out immediately. Would plan for both to miss Week 4 with good possibility both players miss more than one week. Expect both to have an MRI tomorrow

🚑 Week 2 Injury Thread 🚑

Full write up Tuesday with @TheFFBallers

My quick, concise thoughts on each injury + what we know now 👇
#49ers RB situation:

Trey Sermon: in concussion protocol

Elijah Mitchell: R shoulder injury, team believes is a "stinger type injury"; MRI tomorrow

Ja'Mycal Hasty: Ankle injury, to be evaluated more tomorrow. Severity currently unknown
#Browns Baker Mayfield

L shoulder dislocation: Returned to the game and was effective. Will be fine moving forward but is likely to require offseason labral repair surgery. If this was his R shoulder, he'd be done for the year

1/ One more #NFL thing before the Day of Atonement. Last night's #MNF was very satisfying as a #Steelers fan. The ending of the game was nuts and I want to reproduce the nutty live-texts I sent to my sleeping son, not expecting it to become a saga of silliness.
2/ [11:31 PM] 55 yard FG to send it into overtime!

{Little did I know that this would be the least surprising thing of overtime. I should also add that many people expected BAL to go to the Superbowl and the Raiders to get a top 5 pick in the 2022 draft} Screencap from the ESPN app, score 27-27.
3/ [11:40 PM]: RAIDERS WIN
[11:41 PM]: wait hold up
[11:42 PM]: CORRECTION. will be at the half yard-line

{It was so exciting to think LV would get the ball and then just drive down the field and score. Of course, it couldn't be that simple. TD taken back.} ESPN screencap. 7:22 in OT, score still 27-27, LV in red zon

1/ A thread to catalog my stray comments about the NFL yesterday (as part of my academic 'obsessive archiving' heritage).

Overall, the #Steelers had an amazing road win over Buffalo mainly because of a stifling defense, which is fun in retrospect but during the game is stressful
2/ The comment below is actually from my sports-watching partner, my sportsman son, who is wise & savvy beyond his years.

Melvin "Boy Named Sue?" Ingram draws a holding penalty instead of getting a de jure sack but de facto it is one.
3/ BAL & NE are experts in bad-faith rulebook exploitation. Examples abound (see CBS link). 2 most common: the "Flacco Ball" (badly thrown deep pass designed purely to draw DPI) & having the OL hold on every play to DDOS the refs.

61.02/ I am a fan of the professional sport of American Football and, as a child of Pittsburgh, a particular avid supporter of the #Steelers. I apologize ahead of time for some intemperate comments that may be made during the season which could be non-sequitur for non-NFLers.
61.03/ From last night at the #Mets-Yankees game, a scandal that Fox's cameras lingered on that hateful flag. Ironically it symbolizes the way 9-11 was perverted by corrupt bad-actors from day one.

55.02/ I have no idea (yet?) how to handle this case brought up by @AnaMardoll and I think I need to because I can envision needing a solution IRL.

55.03/ As I've gotten older I've come to view this mishnah from Avot as more & more central to both practical & ideal wisdom. Especially for the internet.

It's an early indictment of #DunningKruger blowhards: stop talking! Listen. Less talk, more rock.
