In recent days, stories on various local news websites have flagged places like #Plymouth, #Hull, #StokeonTrent and #Stockport as having the “highest number of empty shops”, according to a new survey. So, here's my take (a long thread).
Let’s have a look at this in more detail, and do the one thing that often gets overlooked – scrutinising and interrogating the data on which these claims are based.
The first thing to ask is who’s behind the data, and, hence, get a sense of how reliable that data is. Articles cite the research as being conducted by a “tech firm”, Property Inspect.
