Precarious work is a huge issue in Waterloo Region. Employees often lack insurance, sick leave and there is lack of predictability of income that creates the inability to feed & house families. I know professors who rely on food banks. People need job security.
Managers have discretionary power to cut back hours removing the health benefits of part time workers. Some Professors don’t know if they have a job until two weeks before the term starts.
