“Pepe the frog, the greedy merchant and #stopthesteal”: A comparative study of discursive and memetic communication on Twitter and 4chan/pol during the insurrection on the US Capitol, by Andrey Kasimov, Regan Johnston, and Tej Heer.

journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…
"A style guide on the Neo-Nazi community The Daily Stormer directs its members to “always hijack existing cultural memes in any way possible [because] packing our message inside of existing cultural memes and humour can be viewed as a delivery method."
"Members are encouraged to carefully encode Nazi messages into viral memes with the agenda of normalizing these ideas within the public discourse. Online far-right communities such as 4chan/pol, 8chan, & Gab often act as a testing ground for these memes before they are deployed".

1/8 The Stop the Steal movement was itself stolen. On 2020-11-04, @KylieJaneKremer of @america1stwomen (WFAF) started a Facebook group Stop the Steal. It became a movement. Within 22 hours, the group gained >300,000 members. 2.1 Million more joined its waiting list. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
2/8 A week later, the Stop the Steal (& #StopTheSteal) was controlled by twice-convicted felon Ali Alexander. He turned it into an evil parody of #MAGA & his personal cash cow. Ali’s speeches had violent & racist undertones. His events invited troublemakers & White nationalists, Image
3/8 although Ali Alexander is a black man born as Ali Akbar. WFAF parted ways with Ali.
Ali announced his Stop the Steal rally on #Jan6, a permit for which he received by misrepresentation. He promoted it by falsely claiming support from Trump & @GOP speakers he never talked to. Image

Oh wow. Alors reprenons.

OK, interesting

I expect that no one in my #NAFO set is gonna know who Miles Guo is, so let me introduce him real quick: Miles Guo is basically an expat Chinese billionaire huckster.

You and I care who he is because this mf finances insurrectionism.
nytimes.com/2023/03/15/nyr…
🧵
The Times in '17 characterizes him as a "gadfly" to Beijing with a tendency to leak wild-looking claims that are "outlandish and easily debunked", along with some actually legit intel.

This made him a natural fit with the Trump admin.

nytimes.com/2017/05/30/wor…
The real picture on Guo is something closer to a trashnews provocateur involved in running hedge fund beefs.

There's been an Interpol Red Notice for him since '17.

33/ I wonder what Greenberg told prosecutors about the #StopTheSteal effort in 2018, which stopped the recount in the races won by DeSantis & Rick Scott… Were bogus third party candidates involved? Were election officials or others bribed & paid w/ crypto to stymie the recount?
34/ This happened during the height of convicted crypto criminal Joel Greenberg’s tenure at the tax collector’s office in Florida. Did he help fund any aspect of this effort? link.medium.com/7WxYzCjGMvb

Despite Twitter’s long-standing policy that it would NOT block a world leader, following public demands from the far-left including @MichelleObama, CEO at the time Jack Dorsey delegated much of the enforcement against DJT to @yoyoel and @vijaya.

#TwitterFiles #TwitterFiles4
On Jan 7, @jack emails employees saying Twitter must remain consistent and all blocked users should return after a temporary suspension

But @yoyoel put intense pressure on Jack to enact new rules specifically to perma-ban DJT

Now, 5 strikes would result in permanent suspension

1. TWITTER FILES, PART 4

The Removal of Donald Trump: January 7

As the pressure builds, Twitter executives build the case for a permanent ban
On Jan 7, senior Twitter execs:

- create justifications to ban Trump

- seek a change of policy for Trump alone, distinct from other political leaders

- express no concern for the free speech or democracy implications of a ban

Les #twitterfiles - un thread sur le contenu des échanges internes chez Twitter autour de sa politique de modération, telle qu'elle se pratiquait jusqu'ici sur la plateforme... #s01e00 #contexte

On 12/9/21, just one day before "Libs of TikTok LLC" was registered in Delaware, Chaya Raichik posted this photo with @SethDillon via the @libsoftiktok account.
While neither Raichik nor Dillon's name were on the Delaware registration, a "branch" of the same company - "Libs of Tik Tok LLC" - was registered in Florida in March 2022. @SethDillon is listed as a "manager" on the application.
Raichik's @libsoftiktok got it's "big break" in July 2021, after a seemingly inebriated @joerogan promoted the account on his podcast, referencing a Daily Caller article written the day before.

TOUR GUIDE: On your right is the Trump SCIF, that's where Mr. Trump keeps his most top secret super duper documents. Let me pull one out and show you how secretive they are. Oh look, it's Trump's dear friend Russian Minister Sergey Lavrov. Hi Serge. Back again?
TOUR GUIDE: This padlock, let me get it off the ground, was a gift from one of Trump's favorite kids. You know her as Ivanka! Used to be on her diary when Mr. Trump started dating First Lady Melania. The combo is 0420 which happens to be a celebrity birthday? Y'all know Hitler?
TOUR GUIDE: Trump used to use this room for ketchup storage. Did you know you could fit 8653 bottles of ketchup in here? That translates to about 30 boxes of top secret Nuclear documents. Y'all smell that musky vinegar smell? That's Steve Bannon's cologne. He's a regular in here.

Really bad.

2. ME-02: Bruce Poliquin is the GOP nominee after urging Trump not to concede in 2020 & refusing to say unequivocally that Biden won.

3. Nevada Gov: Trump-endorsed Joe Lombardo won the GOP nod after questioning whether Biden won "fair and square."

#SeditionHunters - NYT reports that a panicked Alex Jones (facing crippling lawsuits from Sandy Hook families and an increasingly aggressive Jan 6 investigation), is now offering DOJ full cooperation if they promise not to prosecute him... 1/
nytimes.com/2022/04/20/us/…
Jones will have to get more honest to make a deal worthwhile. He played a major role not only leading up to Jan 6, but on the day: he led a crowd to the Capitol, then steered them around the building to help build the crowd for the East-side breaches. 2/
Alex Jones is tied not just to the Jan 6 propagandists but to the attackers. Alex moved all day with Ali Alexander, leader of #StopTheSteal. And the attack itself was led by ... Alex's former employee Joe Biggs, InfoWars "reporter" turned Proud Boy. 3/

So some interesting things have surfaced in the last few weeks that I want to share. Be patient with me, I’m slow & get interrupted a lot. But, I think it’s worth it to share this information before the mid-term elections.

😃 Please don’t forget to vote in November…💙
This article from 04/06/2022 has been weighing on my mind…it’s regarding the #RockbridgeNetwork, defined as a coalition.

What is a “political coalition” in the US?
Not much. It’s basically a verbal, non-regulated agreement to finance an agreed upon political agenda.
While #RockbridgeNetwork is being considered a “new GOP coalition”, it isn’t, think #CambridgeAnalytica. Plus, it is not the only “new GOP coalition” popping up before mid-term elections. #ChestnutStreetCouncil has been started by Matt Schlapp, think #KochNetwork

@MacFarlaneNews Following the Capitol invasion, organization Documented reported audio it had obtained of a robocall message sent out by RLDF the day before the attack, encouraging people to turn out for the march. Archived copies “March To Save America” website also point to RLDF’s involvement.
@MacFarlaneNews “I’m calling for the Rule of Law Defense Fund with an important message,” the call started, before describing plans for the crowd to march from a park near the White House to the Capitol  at 1 p.m. to “call on Congress to stop the steal.”
@MacFarlaneNews “We are hoping patriots like you will join us to continue to fight to protect the integrity of our elections,“ the message continued. It then promoted the march’s website, before ending with a reminder that the call was “paid for and authorized by the Rule of Law Defense Fund.”
