The CARES Act created a $500 billion corporate bailout fund with limited oversight. That’s outrageous. Our #StopCOVIDCorruption bill ends conflicts, empowers IGs & watchdogs, protects whistleblowers, & requires transparency & accountability for bailout recipients.
Dozens of members of Congress & 57 organizations – including @Public_Citizen, @POGOBlog, & @CREWcrew – have endorsed our bill to #StopCOVIDCorruption. Congress must pass it in the next relief package.

The @StateDept already suffers from a toxic combination of malice and neglect under this admin. Removing the Inspector General, allegedly as retaliation for investigating @SecPompeo, is another punch to the gut for our career diplomats.

Step 1: No more conflicts of interest in who gets relief funds & who distributes them. We should make the White House task force disclose their financial interests, stop relief money from going to insiders, & padlock the revolving door to prevent bribes. #StopCOVIDCorruption
Step 2: Empower & protect the Inspectors General so the President can’t fire them without good cause. The President must inform Congress when an IG is removed, an investigation should be triggered, & the position should be filled by the IG’s first assistant. #StopCOVIDCorruption
