Why?
1) Putin needs Russian gas to flow to Europe;
2) Ukrainian transmission system is a route of largest capacity. It's well operational & maintained;
3) the fear to damage it & lose gas revenues/ Euro market in longer persp ties Putin in his further actions in Ukraine; /2

Lack of punishment for Putin's aggression brought us here: to the edge of large-scale European war. Russia amasses troops & weapons at the UA border & explicitly threatens to further invade & destroy Ukraine: they put all necessary resources in place to begin it right away /2

The need to have UA transmission system operational is a safeguard against RU large-scale aggression, which could eventually damage Ukrainian pipeline along with other critical infrastructure objects. The deterrent disappears when Kremlin gets alternative routes for their gas /2
UA gas transmission system is complex, of necessary capacity & maintenance. There's no logic for Russia to invest billions in building projects like NS2, unless the goal pursued is to untie their hands to destroy Ukraine while keeping gas revenues safe #StopNordStream2 /3
