We told you this was an imperialist cult.

ABAI has an expansionist arm called SABA.

They are serious.

They want to set up control areas in all spheres of society.

ABAI are the people who give a platform to the Judge Rotenberg Center.

It's not just about autism.

#BanABA
They want to mainstream ABA to make it completely unstoppable.
It's a strategy. If they succeed in normalising ABA beyond its current applications, we will have a much harder time trying to stop them from doing this to autistic children.

[THREAD] KEY CONCEPTS FOR AUTISTIC ADVOCACY
In this thread, I am going to provide definitions for some of the key concepts which often feature in discussions, training, arguments and even academic papers about autism.
Defining them and agreeing about the definitions can help us reduce our arguments and gain consensus more quickly -- or at the very least, it can help to ensure that we're at least arguing about the same thing, even if we don't agree about how to approach it.

I wish to remind you that the BCBAs who work at the Judge Rotenberg Center are credentialed by the BACB. The BACB takes away the credentials of professionals who violate their code of conduct. The BACB code of conduct permits torture. #ABAisAbuse

TW JRC, shocks

"..Rotenberg and the parents and guardians argued that the shock treatment was beneficial for patients who did not respond to any other treatment"

1. How is shocking people beneficial?
2. Respond in what way?

"'With the treatment, these residents can continue to participate in enriching experiences, enjoy visits with their families and, most importantly, live in safety and freedom from self-injurious and aggressive behaviors,' it said."

In what world is getting shocked 100 times a day completely out of your control, due to behaviors as innocuous as getting out of your chair, or wanting a drink, or any other regular life thing, living "in safety and freedom"?

YES THEY'RE STILL SAYING IT'S OKAY TO ELECTRIC SHOCK AUTISTIC PEOPLE.

STOP TELLING US ABA ISN'T ABUSE. ABA THERAPY IS ABUSE, READ IT YOURSELF, RIGHT HERE:

#SayNoToABA
If anyone wants to "approve" this they should have to undergo the electric shocks themselves before they get to officially decide.

This is f*cking barbaric.

YES THEY SHOCK AUTISTIC PEOPLE IN 2021. STILL.
"The ruling was a victory for the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center and a group of parents and guardians of its students, which had challenged the regulation."

Notice they didn't say it was a victory for the STUDENTS.

It was Not a victory for the disabled students themselves.

Something is happening that you need to know about.

The Judge Rotenberg Center in Massachusetts is still using painful electric shock devices to punish autistic & disabled people.

The devices were banned by the FDA last year, but then the ban was put on hold because of Covid.
The JRC practices a form of behaviorism called Applied Behavioral Analysis.

Electric shocks, solitary confinement, physical restraint, starvation, sleep deprivation, etc. are all tactics used by the JRC to ā€œcontrolā€ the behavior of developmentally disabled people.
Six disabled people have died at the JRC in the time since it was founded.

Residents have been restrained and shocked for things as minor as not taking off their jacket, accidentally wetting the bed, and rocking back and forth.

The center has been condemned by the UN.

@AOC And ban conversion therapy for use against autistic people, where it's called ABA and the US government sponsors it across the entire country. #ABAisAbuse #CRPD #DisabilityRights
@AOC Conversion therapy was turned mainstream first against gay people and then against vulnerable autistic children by Ivar Lovaas. There is still a nationwide multimillion dollar abuse industry sponsored by the US government, based on his work, and autistic people are the victims.
