Day 466 of the daily thread covering the #UkraineRussianWar begins here.

All the news and analysis, throughout the day and night - looks like little sleep again tonight as it's believed #Russia has fired cruise missiles, currently an hour away from hitting #Ukraine.

#StopRussia
The situation is still developing. We hope the missile launch was a fake, or dummy warheads to "draw out" #Ukraine's air defence.

For all yesterday's news, including the terrible attack on #Dnipro, click and scroll here:
#StandWithUkraine

Also hearing now that cruise-missile laden ships are in the launch zone in the Black Sea. This is not uncommon, but #Russia's current tactic of a mixed missile attack increases the likelihood of ships being involved.

Estimated time of arrival of rockets: 03:10 Kyiv time.

🇬🇧Welcome to Day 437 of #Russia's war on #Ukraine

If you are citizen of the Commonwealth, Happy Coronation Day, or if you're a Republican, just enjoy the weekend😅

This is the daily thread for Saturday with all the news in one thread, updated throughout the day.
Let's start in occupied #Crimea, where chat sites make pleasant reading this morning:

08:04 "A loud bang was heard in the #Krasnogvardeyskoye district"
08:05 "a good roar sounded. Dzhankoy-Krasnogvardeyskoye"
08:05 "strong 'cotton' in Krasnogvardeyskoye."

Here's what was seen
#Russia's Occupiers on #Crimea insist air defence worked in the north of Crimea "there were no casualties or destruction"

Oh but then the Kerch Bridge was unexpectedly closed. Guards told these people "threat of an attack" but later authorities say it's "for technical reasons"🤡

Hello again and thanks for reading, this is Thursday's #RussiaUkraineWar thread.

It's Day 435 since #Russia launched its full invasion.

I am still recovering from yesterday - what a day. Relive it here:
#SlavaUkraini
Some breaking news, we are learning about repeated explosions in #Zaporizhzhia this morning.

S-300 anti aircraft missiles again being used by #Russia to attack civilians, but monitoring groups say one exploded just after launch, before it crossed the frontline.

It's noisy.
The weather has improved in #Ukraine. But though the ground may be drying out a little on the frontline, conditions are still incredibly tough.

Here's the only viable route for #Ukraine to/from #Khromove (then beyond to #ChasivYar)

Kyle Porter, 27, of Calgary, + 21yo Cole Zelenco of Ontario were both serving with Ukraine's International Legion.

They gave their lives for freedom. RIP

We've reached Day 316. All the news updated here throughout the day, so come back and scroll through later.

Wednesday ended in lively fashion after a quiet day. If you missed anything, the big news was from #Crimea where explosions/air defence were reported in two separate towns.

If you missed anything, take a look back here:

#StopRussia
Let's start the thread with a chuckle, with this scene from Kazakhstan according to the poster on Telegram.

A middle aged woman telling a couple of guys from #Russia exactly what she thinks!

"Putin is a d*ckhead. #Ukraine will win. All Kazakhstan hates you!"

Day 252 of #Russia's war on #Ukraine.

You know the format for the daily thread by now - all the news and analysis, throughout the day. And if you missed anything yesterday, take a peek here:

Here's the daily update from British Intelligence, concentrating on #Russia's mercenary #Wagner unit.

#StopRussia
I saw this photo a few days ago on a busy day, so worth highlighting now. It really is remarkable the standard of some of #Ukraine's longer term bases created, and this isn't the only one just for the cameras.

A new week begins and a bit of a landmark day in #Russia's war as we reach Day 250.

This is the start of the 250th daily thread, with accurate news from #Ukraine. It's still strangely quiet so far, but if you missed yesterday's updates, here's the link:

#Russia's police have opened two cases against Sergey Mamontov for this horrific incident.

The regional branch of the "United Russia" party has said he will be expelled.

#Ukraine's state energy company tells civilians there will be no quick end to power cuts.

Indeed, residents are warned rationing will continue throughout winter and may get worse if #Russia's strikes continue.
People are urged to always have essentials/power banks etc charged.

Once again #Ukraine is under attack this Thursday morning, but in general air defence looks to be performing slightly better each day.

All the news, updated in real time throughout the day⬇️
Last night the wave of attack drones started entering #Ukraine air space and some missiles fired by #Russia too.

#Dnipropetrovsk #Zaporizhzhia and #Odesa all had reports of strikes - you can read all about those & anything else you missed yesterday here:

The reports of a drone hitting in #Kyiv oblast have now been confirmed.

Regional Head Oleksiy Kuleba says "The enemy attacked one of the communities of the region. The fire is being extinguished. There are no injuries."

Hello Day 244 and here's the start of another daily thread covering #Russia's illegal war of aggression in #Ukraine.

For the second successive night no widespread bombing or use of attack drones.

There was still a lot of news yesterday, catch up here:

In the early hours this morning the @TheStudyofWar published its daily report/review. Relying on the @ukrpravda_news interview with #Ukraine's Military intelligence chief I tweeted in yesterday's thread, ISW suggests a high-level split in the #Kremlin.

understandingwar.org/backgrounder/r…
A leap in some categories in #Russia's losses today. 3 x Ka-52 attack helicopters in a day, which UK Intel notes in the next tweet.

Tanks destroyed also well above the mean again, possibly due to #Ukraine's partial counter in #Bakhmut and fierce RU resistance in #Beryslav

#StandWithUkraine️
A lot of interesting news came in late last night, including explosion and deaths at a gunpowder factory in #Russia and freedom for two more villages in #Kherson.

If you want to catch up on yesterday's stories, here's the start of Saturday's thread:

The #UK update today takes a look at the "Wagner Line" of defence.

I covered this a few days ago and Whitehall also concludes #Russia has accepted that its defence needs to be way behind current front lines.

1/ #RussiaIsATerroristState that can be divided in three. Firstly, #Moscow. A city of over 10 million residents that reap all the benefits of a typical 19th century empire. Moscow population is assured to live in comfort by squeezing wealth from the provinces as needed.
2/ Secondly, the cities that Moscow uses to siphon wealth from the regions. Case in point, #StPetersburg. The city has been spared from the worst of the #War_in_Ukraine so far. There are indications however, that it is expendable to Moscow.
3/ Thirdly, everyone else. The most visible city in this group is Nizhny Novgorod. A city of over 1.4M three decades ago, its population now hovers around 1.2M. That points towards (at least) 200k souls leaving the place in search for a better future.

As usual a link to yesterday's thread as a few of you tell me you like to check up on the news in one place.

Another fairly quiet day in terms of attacks and missiles, although just before Thursday ended, #Zaporizhzhia suffered a bad attack:

#Mobilization is still the big talking point in #Russia

This is a scene from #Makhachkala in the republic of #Dagestan. A big convoy of fresh convicts, sorry conscripts.

Woman can be heard wailing, knowing they may never see loved ones again.

Wednesday was remarkable.

From pathetic Putin's ramblings/partial mobilisation, to the street protests in #Russia, to the prisoner swap deal which saw all 5 Britons released, ending with Zelenskyy's focused and powerful, history-making speech at the #UN

Last night there were big queues at #Russia's southern border with #Georgia.

Presumably men trying to flee before they receive the dreaded call-up to fight in #Ukraine.

Yesterday there were reportedly long queues at the Finnish border and flight tickets selling out.

The important thing to say is that President Putin is making his delayed (recorded) speech now about the future of the illegal war
Putin announced only a partial mobilisation, which is what I suspected.

So anyone who's on the reserve will be called up due to #Russia's shortage of cannon fodder.

1/ Operational situation update / #russian_invasion in #Ukraine on September 18, 2022
The situation is still evolving past #Oskil river & North Donets river, as I report for the past days.
Past Oskil is a real struggle, but north #Slaviansk is ok now
#UkraineMap #CarteUkraine
2/ the steady & global action in the temporarily occupied area of #Lyman, Ukrainian defenders liberated #Yarova, #Shchurove and #Dibrova for couples of day & now registered in the direct vicinity of #Yampil & #Lyman - also some reports of #Yatskivka & moving on to #Rubtsi. (TBC)
3/ In the north part of #Luhansk, there are some doubts now about the extreme north part close to the Russian frontier & Gen staff confirmed an attack today on the saliant past #Kupiansk on the East part of #Oskil river. (approximative FEBA till further review)
Momentum still ok?

News breaking right now is another night-time attack on #Kharkiv

There have been multiple explosions in the city so far and more rockets on the way according to tracking.

The missiles have landed near the centre according to early reports

Welcome to Wednesday, and daily thread #126 on #Russia's illegal war on #Ukraine.

More death and destruction overnight from Russian missiles, but remember barbaric attacks like on #Kremenchuk are NOT mistakes. They are targeted terror attacks on a peaceful nation.

Read on...
Three dead, five injured so far in another cowardly attack by #Russia on a residential building in #Mykolaiv.

The usual terror tactics, soft targets. Civilians very much in the Russian army sights with each missile.
Each one a war crime and so far no justice as killing continues ImageImageImageImage
In case you missed it last night, another of #Russia's pathetic defences over the #Kremenchuk massacre is "but there's no video of the hit"

There is: here's a still of the giant missile about to kill dozens - video in the link.
