The burdens of #ClimateChange change are disproportionately placed on people in poverty

@CecilCorbinMark
@aceee #SummerStudy20

Which includes #buildings
For instance, as @CecilCorbinMark, demonstrates this point with:

Air Conditioning during all time high heat waves.

People in poverty may be inequitably burdened by:
Experiencing a heat wave bc their home does not have an air conditioning unit.

Heat waves can cause:
heat exhaustion,
triggering asthma,
organ damage

In elderly populations, this can result in death.

Every building data model is different & unique for building models

There are different ways that technicians describe behaviors - making the communications difficult.

Standard naming conventions? No. More like give a class heirarchy that can be adapted to different sources of equipment.
Unique naming is a human problem, but results from diversity of buildings, retrofits, and management

& can also inhibit optimal Building Information Models (BIMs)

Building as batteries for a flexible energy grid
Hao Huang @BuildingsAlive

By collecting data from chillers, cooling towers, water pumps, and return air fans, #building System engineers and designers can anticipate regions for increasing load in non-peak energy periods
Increasing load of chillers in off-peak hours can quite literally save costs & build demand for renewable energy. Plus, this can help electric grids adapt loads as renewable energy sources fluctuate

Many policies & utilies recognize the need for flexible #smartbuilding technologies, but are inhibited by barriers of pilots to increase usage & trust with voice assistants aka 'Alexa'
@Guidehouse identified lack of education/awareness within workforces & info to support this education

US construction is male & white; leading to systemic & intergenerational siphoning of contracts, social relationships & $$$$

Diversity & anti-racist policies need to implemented in bidding & contractors
Existing efforts at Municipal, State, & Federal seek to do ALL the things: gender equity & racial equity --->
