The first experiment used a mock-up of the comparison tool’s results page, sorting super funds into ‘good’ or ‘poor’ performers. We found people tended to select higher performing funds when the results table included a third ‘top’ performance category.
We also tested ways to communicate the risk/return trade off: common industry terms (eg ‘balanced’) vs technical language (eg ‘low risk & low expected return’). People who saw common industry terms were better at selecting the best option.
