Because this article was put up behind a paywall I choose to respond here:

I'd like to start off by thanking those who signed this letter for their years of service to Progressive causes, but let me outline why/how I disagree with you. 1/
While I believe your intentions are good, like everything about your generation they are flawed. Flawed by even your lifetime of experience with dealing with matters of govt. Let me explain: Had I been born when you were born, I would likely be afraid of Trump too. 2/
While Donald Trump hasn't been an ideal President in any way, think about how he got to office. He was the #DemocratCorporation's candidate @HillaryClinton's #PiedPiper candidate. He had no expectation that he'd actually win. & Why should he have?

1. I applaud them turning out the votes in CA and other key races but it seems clear that folks on @MSNBC @NicolleDWallace aren't aware of how the @NateSilver538 analysis has swung for @JoeBiden in 18 hours. Could win the most but, at least, looks almost 100% no way 1st ballot.
2. And on the second ballot the #SuperDelegates will nominate Joe. @MikeBloomberg thinks he's going to have leverage at the convention. All he's going to get is his car towed. 😎🍀
3. Joe can go ahead and never look back on #StPatricksDay.

1. Are #SuperDelegates Anti-Democratic? The only un-elected officials among @TheDemocrats' Super Delegates are current & former Presidents, Vice Presidents, Congressional leaders, and DNC chairs. In 2016 there was a total of 20 unelected Super Delegates.
2. All the rest hold top elected offices. We don't get to vote on floor of Congress. Our elected officials do. Why should a party deny power to vote in its convention to the people who have won big elections? I would have left them in the first ballot. But Bernie got his way.
3. With the current trajectory, nobody will get near 1991 on the first ballot. I don't like the termed, "brokered convention" because I don't even think @BarackObama could "broker" a convention between a Socialist and a Democrat. This will be like putting your dog down.

The Democratic Party is considering de-emphasizing or eliminating #superdelegates, which are heavily criticized for being small-d undemocratic, which they absolutely are. But please consider this defense of this essential protection against populist demagogues. /1
Lots of things have changed since the Founders founded, but their deep-seated fear of the damage a populist demagogue could do to a democracy remains absolutely valid. Hamilton's Federalist Papers are riddled with warnings from top to bottom. /2
Federalist Paper 1 featured this warning: "[O]f those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants." /3
