Yesterday I felt physically sick hearing that NHS England may be about to threaten supportive parents of trans children with āsafeguarding protocolsā if they go outside the NHS for gender care. 1/14
We love our teen to bits. This is not what parents want for their children, constant despair that they may struggle to live their life. They tell us & demonstrate clearly every day that this is what they NEED. 2/14
Families often hold off affirming their child (6 years in our case) Yes, they worry it could be a phase & reassure them theyāre perfect as they are but continuing to do this leads to distress & depression. Itās harmful & cruel to deny them their identity 3/14
I know a handful of trans adults in their latter years, who were supported at an early age. They are still trans decades later, living their lives, growing old, surviving. One lady in her 70s came to speak to me after meeting our family, including our trans daughter 1/
She told us how happy she was to meet us, & that we were supportive & accepting of our child as trans. Then, fighting back tears, she said, do you know I'm trans too, & I was a trans child. She told us after transition she'd had to move away from home, & had never disclosed 2/
her trans history to anyone outside her immediate family. She said that colleagues she'd worked with for years, & her close friends had no knowledge she was transgender. 3/
Weāre dismayed to find out that a number of local authorities have dropped their trans inclusion guidance for schools - not because the guidance is incorrect but because of pressure from a litigious pressure group. (1/n)
Just to be clear, schools still have a duty under the Equality Act (2010) to #SupportTransKids and that wonāt change, itās just that many local authorities donāt have a best practice document that explains how to do it. Thankfully the education unions do. (2/n)
But imagine being so committed to taking support away from one of the most marginalised groups of society that youād take a local authority to court. Letās get this straight: itās possible to #SupportTransKids AND cis girls and young women. (3/n)

@stonewalluk response is a huge let down. One point out of 69 is on children's GIDS. It focuses on need for training at CAHMS, not even questioning why trans children have to go anywhere near CAHMS (CAHMS doesn't even want to see trans children) @ruth_hunt

Those opposed say under 16 is too young to make a decision on how to live. Clearly they know no trans kids. Our trans kids are already living their lives, the GRA has no bearing on this. The GRA is about their life & identity being recognised & respected. #ProtectTransKids
