Light reading....
Would we like me to summarise a tiny bit of the volume?
Settle down now...
Ready?
Here we go...p 255 - sensory assistance for autistic people.
Paraphrased:
OK, so it helps integrate life, makes body sensations more accurately felt, helps confidence, improves posture...but/
...these things aren't Science!
They are Nebulous. Meaningless.
We cannot prove it was the sensory work!
So, we're going to ignore it, and say that's rubbish.
After all, a child was still getting out of their uncomfortable school chair, so that proves it, see?
<sigh>

This is a two part story (#RLR)

Each stands alone but their combination is multiplicative #Synergy #Interdependence

Today’s topic: “The sample is hemolyzed” - In vitro vs In vivo
2/
The lab notifies you “the sample is hemolyzed.”

First step in reasoning, did the hemolysis occur in the patient (in vivo) or during collection of the specimen (in vitro “ex vivo”), eg., prolonged application of tourniquet
3/
In vivo hemolysis -> need to determine cause of hemolysis

In vitro hemolysis -> usually consequence of collection technique

"But where do we put distressed autistic people needing high support? There's only secure hospital beds available?", our teams are often asked.
Yes, that's the problem.
We've commissioned the wrong solutions, which is why they don't work.
The money needs to buy better answers/
That starts with co-design of supportive services, working with autistic specialist teams and allies who understand modern autism. Not teams who were taught the 1940s model that has long since been replaced by work such as that of the DART team dart.ed.ac.uk/wp-content/upl… /

Tough subjects. Thread. Autism, suicide, trauma.
Brace yourselves.
Very grateful to @Sarah_NottsUni & team for link.springer.com/article/10.100… on autism and suicide risks/numbers (new, 2020)
And to Griffiths & team for onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.100… on autism and trauma, with a lot of detail/
Let's start with Griffiths & the trauma research. They researched life experiences of 426 autistic people, and 268 non-autistic people ('controls'). So, big numbers.
These are the results. I was moved to tears, for the plight of autistic people/
Nearly all of the autistic people had been attacked, humiliated, ostracised, insulted, defrauded, threatened, an endless list of horrors.
Nearly half forced into sexual activity they didn't want.
Nearly three quarters bullied by someone they thought was their friend/
