🧵You can own the Future of Tomorrow Today.

I have heard many people try to call this crash in biotech the end of the #Biotechnology sector. A sector that has been around for decades. One of the most necessary sectors in the entire market.
1/ Here I am going to lay out for you the opposite case. I have been investing in tech and biotech for 27 years. I have seen so much technology that excites me about the future, and I see it today.
2/ The biggest question I always get in biotech investing is when will we run out of things to discover or great new technologies to invent. I my response is we will never run out until we cure every disease.

"Liquid and Solid #Brains: Mapping the #Cognition Space"

Today's SFI Seminar by Ext Prof @ricard_sole, streaming now — follow this 🧵 for highlights:

Image
"Why #brains? Brains are very costly...it seems like they are not a very good idea to bring complex cognition to a #biosphere that just needs simple replicators."

"I also want to explore the problem of #consciousness, which is around all the time..."

Two different views of #evolution:

- Stephen Jay Gould and an emphasis on #contingency

- Simon Conway Morris/Pere Albach and an emphasis on #constraints and #convergence

An Israeli biotech company, Renewal Bio that recently created mouse embryos using stem cells, has announced plans to make human embryos to harvest tissue for organ transplants and anti-aging procedures.

#Stemcells #biotech #biology #Syntheticbiology #Aging #transplant
The scientist behind the work clarified that:
The synthetic embryos were not "real" embryos and did not have the potential to develop into live animals. But that is partly because they don't have the technology, right now, to do so.
He admits to taking his "ground-breaking" technology to the next level and creating human embryos. The purpose is to harvest tissue to be used in transplant treatments meant to lengthen a person's life and health.

It's #EarthDay so today seems like a good day to share a quick overview of my book, Brave Green World, which I coauthored with Dr Chris Forman (1/17)
With an almost constant stream of scary environmental news, it can be easy to feel disheartened. There are solutions to the environmental crisis - but it requires a rethink of our relationship with matter and energy.
In #BraveGreenWorld, Chris and I set out to understand how we can combine old wisdom with new technology to make our economy more like a natural ecosystem - recycling everything locally and producing next to no waste.

1/ Bargain Hunting in #SyntheticBiology:

These are the companies that rank in my top picks for people to use as a jumping off point to do their own research.
2/ My first top pick in this space is $DNA. I get that this company is really expensive at just over $7 billion, but they will quickly grow into and surpass that valuation in my opinion.
3/ They already have a very successful commercial platform that is expanding the amount of programs very quickly. They have over 100 programs in development. The biggest risk I see here is their very high level of Biosecurity sales.

A joint effort with a wonderful team of colleagues (@ico2s , @portabolomics) spanning software engineering (@nocoffeenocode), synthetic biology & environmental microbiology (@vdlorenzo_CNB) and social sciences (@LPelechova , @PEALSncl )
We take a small but important step in developing tools for #OpenScience and more #reproducible strain engineering.

Top #SynBio names.

Taking a look at my top 3 #SyntheticBiology names.
When it comes to Synthetic Biology, there is no company I like better then $TWST. I think they offer everything an investor wants with a top quality management and great long term potential in a key theme.
When you look at the SnyBio space, the top developer is $DNA. Another company with top quality management and very big long term potential. I think this company could be the mega cap of the 2030's as more manufacturing switches to sustainability and new concepts come to market.

New publication by @NavdanyaInt: Bill Gates & his Fake solutions to #ClimateChange" - Technofixes, Industrial Ag, Billionaires Ventures, & Fake Food will not save our Planet - Biodiversity & Agroecology are True Solutions to Climate Change bit.ly/BGFakeSolut @drvandanashiva
Behind a humanitarian veil, Bill Gates favours the interests of corporations, promoting failed technological solutions that harm ecosystems & divert attention from the deep systemic changes needed to address the crises we are facing today bit.ly/BGFakeSolut @drvandanashiva
The common thread that runs through all Bill Gates' programs is the idea that innovation and the market will always save us, that any problem can (and should only) be solved through technology bit.ly/BGFakeSolut @drvandanashiva #Gates2GlobalEmpire

@KonikuTech We are deliberate...Yes, we work with great intent, always and rightfully so. Did you know the word Koniku means immortal? It comes from the south of Nigeria. There is a whole back story it? Would you like to know...? 1/6
Now, have you seen the device we are debuting soon? Its inspired by natural iridescence: pinterest.com/pin/8760915523…. The iridescence typified by the Scarabaeus sacer of Egyptian mythology, the divine manifestation of the early morning sun...Read about Ra: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra 2/6
For those fortunate enough to have visited the Koniku HQ in Berkeley (🤫, your NDA still applies...sorry 🥺... blame the lawyers), one of the first remarks they make is: "it's a Jellyfish!". Yes, that's also deliberate. The number 1 remark is "how do you keep neurons alive?" 3/6
