"Richa started playing when she was around four years old. I used to take her to the club that I had represented at one time. I found out that she was not restless; she used to sit and watch the matches, used to pick the bat and played but never nagged about going home.
I also tried to get her to join table tennis but she was not interested as she tossed the bat after a couple of shots, saying 'I want to play cricket", recalls her proud father Manabendra Ghosh, a former club-level cricketer.

Some numbers from India's #T20WorldCup campaign. To start, India arrived in Australia winning 26/35 T20Is after last year's WC smashing everyone in bilaterals. The brilliance of SKY, Hardik and their new ball bowlers masked their various other inefficiencies in this tournament.
India were the best team in batting Powerplay bw the two WCs with an average of 52 runs in the first six overs. This World Cup, they scored at 6.02 per over in Powerplay - only UAE scored at a lower rate than India in this phase.
India's top order were blown away on spicy tracks against quality bowling attacks of 🇵🇰 (31/3) and 🇿🇦 (33/2). In the other four games on better batting tracks they scored 32/1 v 🇳🇱, 37/1 v 🇧🇩, 46/1 v 🇿🇼 & 38/1 v 🇬🇧.

Indian batters had to win this #IndvEng encounter…168 on this surface against a batting line-up like England with India’s bowling attack that’s bereft of high-pace and wrist-spin was a way below-par score. India’s average PP score in #T20WorldCup is 36 runs. 1/n
You don’t post close to 200 or more without capitalising the field restrictions of the PP overs. The big tactical…almost tectonic shift was in India’s batting approach after the 2021 #T20WorldCup But the day India needed to call upon that template, it didn’t happen 2/n
India played Pant to neutralise the spin-threat and to access short square boundaries…but he came into bat in the 19th over. By then the two spinners had bowled 7 overs for 41 runs. Was it a run-a-ball against spin kind of surface? Clearly not. X-Factor pick was wasted 3/n

🇮🇳-🇿🇦 tactical thread. This is a bigger game for South Africa than India. If India win they are all but guaranteed top spot (88%) & SFs (93%) but are 61% even if they lose. A SA win makes them favourites for the SF (85%) & top (55%) but a loss sees them slide to 35%. #T20WorldCup
The short straight and large square boundaries in Perth will play a big role in this game. It may make spin harder to get through & will place an emphasis on quicks & spinners bowling into the pitch & not over-pitching. Batters will hit straight & run hard square. #T20WorldCup
Conditions in Perth, India RH-heavy batting order & Shamsi’s poor H2H records v India may see SA bring Ngidi back into the side for this game & Shamsi move out. Maharaj’s SLA spin matches up nicely with India’s RHs. #T20WorldCup

THREAD on #T20WorldCup

For those, who're saying, Australia should have hosted the T20 cricket world cup in the middle of their summer in December-January, and not before or after the peak summer, let's put some points out there.

<1/N>
Cricket Australia runs Cricket in Australia & has contractual agreements with the various grounds - and those grounds are shared with AFL. AFL runs its competition for 9 months & Cricket Australia uses them for 3 months. This has necessitated the usage of drop-in pitches.

<2/N>
Cricket Australia has a TV contract with Ch7 & Fox, which stipulates the number of days of international cricket & how much cricket in certain time slots - how many evening sessions of cricket (Adelaide D/N & WACA being night sessions for East Coast). Yet, Ch7 has sued CA.

"It was very difficult in that phase (waiting for a call-up to Team India) to push myself, keep telling myself that the opportunity will come, you just have to work hard.
@surya_14kumar
Because everyone I was meeting was telling me the same thing - just work hard, and keep pushing yourself.
Sometimes it becomes really easy to say those things and difficult to be practical. I used to do different things every year.
"If I do this thing, will this work? If I do that thing, will it work?"
After 2017-18, I still remember, me and my wife, Devisha, sat down and decided, let's do some smart work from here on.

🇦🇺-🇱🇰 tactical thread. Australia’s huge loss v New Zealand has their Semi Final hopes hanging by a thread. If they lose to Sri Lanka today we give them just a 5% chance of progressing. If they win they move from 25% to 37%. Sri Lanka move from 41% to 63% with a win. #T20WorldCup
Australia's bowling & the venue (Perth is fast & bouncy) matches up nicely against Sri Lanka's batting which can struggle v pace & bounce. However, Theekshana & Hasaranga match-up very nicely with Australia who struggle v spin, although conditions may neuter them. #T20WorldCup
Warner is—as he so often is—critical to Australia's spin match-ups, particularly against Hasaranga. Warner has scored 60 for 1 off 37 balls v the leg spinner while Finch & Maxwell combined have scored 88 for 8 (4 dismissals each) off 54 balls in their H2H. #T20WorldCup

The recently played Ind v Pak game was probably one of the most technically complex games. Especially the last over. Here I take you thro each of those balls Nawaz bowled in the last over and my own views on each ball.

#INDvsPAK2022 #T20WorldCup
Ball 1: Pandya wanted strike against Nawaz and he got it. I thought he would hit a couple of sixes and close the game. He did attempt a hoick and was caught by Babar.
Ball 2: DK comes in. Although the batsmen had crossed over the NEW RULES meant that it was DK who would be on strike and not VK. Disadvantage for batting side but they are already so advantaged in this format anyway. Gets a full toss, hits to long on for 1. Opportunity missed.

In other news, India defeated Pakistan in the #T20WorldCup match at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground by 4 wickets

Here are various reactions to this win:

➡Indian Express Headline -
"And The Hindus Humiliated Muslims in Melbourne'.
➡Pakistan Govt denies that it ever sent a cricket team to Melbourne. It says the evidence provided by India is doctored. It challenges India to produce "unequivocal evidence" & not merely claim it won the match yesterday.

➡ Congress and AAP has supported Pakistan's claim.
➡ Arundhati Roy has claimed that whilst Prima Facie there is no evidence that India defeated Pakistan, if it did so, it was a gross violation of the rights of innocent Pakistanis. She plans to go to International Human Rights Commission for getting this investigated

Outstanding over of batting from Hardik & Virat - both targetting the shorter straight boundary. 20 runs off the over & a 10% swing towards India, who are up to 22% to win now. #T20WorldCup
Pakistan are holding the Nawaz over right back until the last, just as they did in the Asia Cup game a few weeks ago. Full credit to India for the way they took him on - the numbers weren't in their favour but finger spin has travelled today. #T20WorldCup
Utterly ridiculous batting from Kohli. When he's set at the death there is no more destructive player. Remarkable power & poise against high-end pace. #T20WorldCup

🇮🇳-🇵🇰 tactical thread. As with Aus-NZ yesterday this is a huge game that carries a massive qualification swing with it. If Pakistan win their SF probability goes from 39% to 59%; if India win their SF probability goes from 55% to 71%. #T20WorldCup
India v Pakistan has traditionally pitted India’s batting strength v Pakistan’s bowling might: this is as true today as it ever has been. Under Dravid India have become a more aggressive batting unit while Pakistan's bowling attack is arguably the best in the world. #T20WorldCup
Pakistan’s attack is the world's fastest & has superb role coverage but India’s batting order is incredibly strong against pace & bounce. However, Pakistan’s primary spinners both turn the ball from right-to-left which matches up very well with India’s right-handers. #T20WorldCup

Looking forward to a few battles: Rohit & Rahul vs Shaheen, Rahul vs Shadab & Nawaz, Kohli vs Shadab & Nawaz, Pandya & Surya vs Nawaz. If Pant plays, he could struggle against anyone but right arm pace. I do think Iftikhar could bowl well to Kohli and Pandya if used. #T20WorldCup
Pakistan could bowl an over of Shadab in the powerplay if needed. Apart from Rohit, he could be effective against both Rahul and Kohli. If Surya is batting in the powerplay, Nawaz could be used too. Nawaz could be effective against Rohit in PP too. #T20WorldCup
In the middle overs, Nawaz and Shadab could be v useful as India don't have a left-handed batter (if Pant doesn't play) and apart from Surya no other batter go could after Shadab's leg spin at will in the middle. #T20WorldCup #INDvPAK

🇦🇫-🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 tactics thread. No team has a bigger bat-first toss preference than Afghanistan & no team has a bigger chasing preference than England so the toss should sort itself out in this one - unless Afghanistan get spooked into chasing by the rain. #T20WorldCup
Conditions in Perth (short straight & lots of pace & bounce) will make life harder for Afghanistan’s spinners. Expect quicks to go into the pitch a lot. The majority of the interest in this game lies in England’s strong batting v Afghanistan’s strong bowling. #T20WorldCup
Rashid has taken 4-31 off 49 balls v Buttler. Afghanistan generally backload him but must be tempted to bowl him early against England’s best batter. Mujeeb remains a good match-up though & it’d be a surprise if they moved away from their system. #T20WorldCup

🇦🇺- 🇳🇿 tactics thread. With 80% chance of rain forecast both sides should consider XIs for a shortened game with a frontline bowler for an all rounder the obvious move with five proper bowlers more important than batting depth as the game gets shorter. #T20WorldCup
Australia’s XI is more settled than NZ’s who have lots of decisions around their middle order, team & bowling balance. Sodhi & Santner match up nicely v Australia’s RHs so Bracewell may miss out despite good form but could play ahead of Chapman. #T20WorldCup
Warner is, as he will often be, the key wicket to protect Australia’s RHs from right-to-left spin & mess with NZ spin overs. Boult & Southee will seek inwards movement v Finch’s front pad early on. Maxwell & David v Lockie’s high pace will be interesting match-ups. #T20WorldCup

With the Super 12s starting tomorrow it is worth underlining the volatility of T20 & the comp format - particularly with rain forecast. In matches between the top sides no team will start as more than 60% favourites & the favourite has arguably never won the comp. #T20WorldCup
The top six ranked teams (Aus, Eng, NZ, Ind, Pak & SA) are definitely clear of the other six teams - this doesn't mean that they won't drop points to the other sides but it does mean that matches between the big six are likely to carry decisive significance. #T20WorldCup
Ultimately qualification for the SFs might hinge on one result so while World Cups are often used as indicative of broader narratives (& sometimes that's right, eg. 2012-2016 WI changed the game & 'deserved' a WC) it's important to recognise how volatile they are. #T20WorldCup

1/x As @andymstone's former tech guy (though not necessarily a fan of his current employer Meta) I'll weigh in here: The claim you are making simply can't be verified with what you're showing for a number of reasons.
2/x Your "read header" tactic betrays that someone who isn't nearly half as clever as they believe they are about how email/networking works is talking you into some pretty shoddy journalism. I don't blame you in a way: I've had to explain this to several very wishful mktg folks
3/x but all your "receipt" means is that some network request was made. It means nothing in terms of whether or not a person (let alone a specific person) received it, viewed it or interacted with it in any way. You simply can't do "gotcha" journalism over email.
