Say what you like about the suffering he caused to the victims and families of those who were sent to their deaths in care homes, but Boris Johnson got all the big calls right.

Say what you like about Boris Johnson failing to chair Cobra meetings, shaking hands in hospitals, and sorting out his divorce, while tens of thousands caught Covid and died, but he got all the big calls right.

Say what you like about Johnson embracing, enabling, and ennobling Russians in London, but when he saw the way the crowd was running, he did the right thing and ran out in front of them shouting 'follow me, because I get all the big calls right'.

They say anti-Covid measures go against the British way of life.
No. It is British to be mindful of others. To go out of our way for others. Dunkirk came to define British spirit because it was a story about how civilians could play a heroic role in securing the safety of others.
Nationalists and libertarians want us to believe in a Britain of me-first selfishness and isolationism. That is their Britain, and, wrapping themselves as they do in the flag, they think they own - and they get to define - the very concept of Britishness.
But there is a better Britain than the one they portray. It is a decent Britain, a fair Britain, an open Britain. Proud of its democracy, its rule of law, and its protection of the vulnerable. That's why - to the surprise of some - I use the flag, and the words, #takebackBritain.

Nobody voted for the privatisation of the NHS.
But that's what the Health and Care Bill allows.

Nobody voted for more sketchy health care contracts, given out in private.
But that's what the Health and Care Bill allows.

Nobody voted to lose the right to go to court when services are withdrawn.
But - you guessed it - that's what the Health and Care Bill allows.

This repellent Bill is in Parliament on Monday and Tuesday.

What can we do to fight it?

#takebackBritain update. We have way too many members for in-house mailmerge to work. A good problem to have. So until I settle on a good mailing platform, my update is here.
First up: thank you. Extraordinary, website-buckling response. Heartfelt, insightful messages. A wealth of talent and experience for me to tap into as we grow.
You wanted me to liaise with others and I am doing that. Met some amazing activists, organisations and politicians. It's not quite a rebel alliance. But we're getting there.

Right then.

The Health and Care Bill.

You know about it right?

It's in the Commons on Monday and Tuesday.

And it stinks.
There is no assault on our country quite like an assault on the NHS. An NHS already on its knees.

But that’s what this outrageous government wants to do with its Health and Care Bill.

We can’t fight every malicious manoeuvre, but we must fight this one.

What’s wrong with it?
The Johnson government’s NHS Bill is a Privatisation Bill.

We’ve all seen in the pandemic how bringing in private firms has wasted vast sums, and absolutely failed us as patients and as a country. What on earth are Johnson and co thinking? Image

I was talking to a friend yesterday who is the national site manager for a very large supplier of animal feed stock. 12 sites across the country providing feed for pigs, cows and chicken. He was saying that in the last 6 months the supply chains for raw mterials have steadily..🧵
...been getting worse to the extent that they are now having meetings twice a day to decide what to produce depending on what they can actually get their hands on. The farmers can't get their stock off the farms because of driver shortages and staff shortages at the...
...slaughterhouses. So they're losing money. The feed companies like his can't pass on raw material costs because the farmers just can't absorb it. They can't always deliver whats needed anyway because of raw material shortages due to international supply chain issues. He said...

First event in Johnson's constituency. Frightening lack of engagement today, but then we did have competition from a wildlife stall & Bertie the owl who was truly MAGNIFICENT! #takebackbritain
Our results came from interesting conversations on hard hitting questions about Johnson's performance as constituency MP for Uxbridge & South Ruislip & PM. /3

It's been three months since freedom day on 19 July.

Since then, thirteen thousand, five hundred and eight souls have been lost to Covid, RIP.

And around three thousand kids have been hospitalised with Covid, in England alone.

Some anniversary.

Libertarianism is lethal.
The libertarian stranglehold on our government, our institutions and our media is killing us.

The same ideology is leading us down a path to economic ruin and diplomatic isolation.

#takebackBritain update. All day, and all through the night, the emails are rolling in. I'm so glad I did it this way, with an email address, and not a form on a website. Because people are writing to me. Not just registering. They are telling me their stories.

They are sharing their horror. Their disbelief. Their outrage. And they are speaking up for a Britain with values. Compassion and integrity and fairness and accountability. And above all honesty. There is a great Britain in their minds, and this ain't it.
/2
There is a future they want for themselves or their children or their grandchildren, and this ain't it. The passion is real ("I've never despised a government before.") ...

#takebackBritain update. I'm bowled over by the emails coming in - amazing people, amazing organisations, standing by, ready to take action against this failed regime. Incredible.
/1 of 5
What's really striking is that so many people have taken the trouble not just to register their readiness, but to explain why. Sometimes at length. The frustration and outrage is palpable, and so well articulated.
/2
Taken together, these emailed letters are an indictment of our times. But they are also a measure of the true "spirit of Britain" so disgracefully appropriated by our dear leader. The true spirit is alive and motivated. Ready to mobilise and ready to roar.
