1/ Could the #LME #nickel fiasco happen to the #Comex #gold and #silver market?

On my recent Twitter Spaces with @PalisadesRadio I mentioned that we may have a problem with current and future availability of gold and silver bars from the expanded refiner list.

Please retweet!
2/ Back in 2020, the #CME expanded the list of approved refineries whose bars are eligible for good delivery to the Comex. This was due to overwhelming demand for physical product and to maintain an orderly market. bullionstar.com/blogs/ronan-ma…
3/ 51 #LBMA approved gold refineries had been added to the eligible brand list for the COMEX 100 (GC 100) gold futures contract. Of the 51 refiner brands, the top countries represented are 12 refineries from China and 7 from Russia.

Even under the pressure of an "investment war" due to rise of China-US #trade tensions,China should not block US companies,and should instead further expand its openness,said a recent report on economic and trade relations between China and the US: cf40.org.cn/uploads/newsle…
This general report,summary of a research program, reviews the evolution of Sino-US relations, shift in US policy toward China, and calls for responding to the Sino-US conflicts with institutional coordination and institutional openness.
The Sino-US #trade conflicts have been escalating since March 2018, triggering #tariff,investment and technology wars, and there is even the possibility of a financial war.This report provides a comprehensive analysis of the conflicts in these four areas:

Tariffs were the greatest (approaching 95% at times) source of federal revenue until the Federal income tax began after 1913. For well over a century the federal government was largely financed by tariffs averaging about 20% on foreign imports.

While headline #inflation came in unchanged today, core #CPI inflation remained firm, and we continued to witness the long-run divergence between goods prices and those of services.
Additionally, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some greater level of volatility creep into the core CPI figure, as persistently strong rates of shelter #inflation combine with the seasonality in apparel and used cars prices, as well as the constantly evolving #tariff influence.
We think the #Fed will probably seek to trim policy #rates another 25 bps in October, leaving December open for debate and allowing time to see more data.

Despite firming core #CPI, driven to some extent by the modest pass through of #tariffs, we still think the @federalreserve is set to ease next week.
While headline #CPI only saw a modest increase, core CPI (excluding volatile food and #energy prices) came in at 0.26% month-over-month and 2.4% year-over-year.
Yet the #Fed is likely to both “look through” some degree of #tariff-related price rises, as being potentially temporary, and policy makers will be laser focused on the labor #market, which has slowed somewhat of late.

Trump announced his intentions to levy 5% tariffs on Mexican imports starting June 10 to penalize what he sees as a failure to stop the flow of Central American migrants thru the border. washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…
Reminder: Mexico is an integral part of the U.S. economy. Here are the industries that could be most hit by Trump's tariffs washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…
No shame.

#US #tariffs will only have limited impacts on #China's #economy:
1. Most #products that China exports to the US also enjoy great domestic #demand. China is seeing #consumption upgrading, so the expanding domestic #market will offset the effect of the reducing US demands.
2. #Chinese #products are exploring more diversified markets;
3. There are still many products that will be exported to the #US, partly because there are barely any substitutes, and partly because US importers are still willing to bear the raised #tariff costs;
4. The upgrading of #China's #industrial structure will require a certain proportion of #production to be transferred overseas, which will accelerate China's high-quality development;
